I say drill the three holes under and keep the 7th.  that way you retain the standard neogeo layout and also have a 6 button layout.  Just wire two buttons to the same input.
Or did you already think of this but don't want to do it that way?

I completely agree with whammoed! Keep the original NEO layout and drill three more underneath for the 6-button SF layout. Best of both worlds!

Yes, I agree as well ...... 7 buttons each would be nice.    then donate the cab to me   ;D    How much do cabinets like this cost?

the cabs really arent that expensive ,relatively speaking..
its the shipping that kills and can typically exceed the cost of the item itself..

I would probably make a new panel (looks as though it unbolts/lifts out?) in order to move all the buttons up a touch and fit another row below (I'd keep the 7th button too, but move it like the HotRod layout).

Thanks for the responses, guys.

The cab cost me $100 off of Ebay, but I picked it up locally in Anaheim, CA.

Whammoed, what did you mean by wiring two buttons to the same input?  Like button 4 and button 5 to the same input?  Is that what you meant?

Thanks.

It seems most people with the 7 button layout wire the 7th button to the same input as the 4th button. (the 7th button being the odd button on the far left)

the control panel for the egrets, candy's.windy cities etc all have the same modular control panel design..
theres several small bolts and a large molex connector those are the only links to the cabinet..
basically remove 6 small nuts, disconnect the molex connector, and thats it..
you may even be able to get a prefab 7 button panel from somewhere like himura amusement for short money.
