Prefered method of controlling N64 emulation
« on: November 26, 2004, 01:52:05 pm »
So what exactly is your prefered method of controlling N64 games on the PC and why?  I can't figure out how to use my PS2 controller with Project64 so I'm considering getting some sort of adapter to use real N64 controllers but I'm not too sure which to get...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

There are a couple of adapters I've seen. Arguably the best is the Adaptoid (no longer being produced, check ebay). It works all of the original N64 controllers (don't remember whether it worked with 3rd party ones offhand), supports the rumble pack, and you can copy files to/from the memory packs. It used to retail for $30/each, though.
I'm currently using two of these:

Quite a bit cheaper, but no rumble support, no memory support, and only work with some of the original controllers.

I was going to correct  SpamMe  and say that ZTNet had secured the rights to continue production, which they did, (I found the site), but it looks like they stopped producing them too, unfortunately.  If you can find an adaptoid, get it.  The adaptoid is friggin great, works perfectly.

....wow, I just picked up 2 adaptoid from ZTNet only a month ago.....They work perfectly.

I had the same psx/n64 gadget that's mentioned in a couple of posts above mine. I agree...it worked...but I liked the full rumble support of the adaptoid....and it works perfectly with all of the games.

by the way it appears to be back in stock at ztnet--

The adaptoid is amazing.  For such a tiny little adapter, it has perfect N64 controller emulation, w/ mempak and rumblepak support.  It's perfect.

Now what I'm wondering... is if it'd work w/ an xbox for n64 emulation.

The xbox controllers are actually just USB Gamepads (if you hack a USB plug onto the end of it, you can just plug them into the PC as a normal gamepad and they work).

I know there's an adaptoid driver, I wonder if it could be ported or something..

Has anyone had any luck using their gamecube controllers connected to their pc's via a usb adapter? I'm interested in using them for n64 emulation.

I've seen three adapters 1. Triolinker, 2.Super Joybox 13 and 3. Skillz Cube.

The Super Joybox 13 looks promising.
