SONY TV SHOCK PROBLEM
« on: November 25, 2004, 07:34:00 am »
 Hello All,
I have put a 21 inch sony trinitron TV into my mame cabinet but it would not fit in unless i removed it from the plastic shell so i did this and installed the chassis. This all works well with one problem i noticed that while the power was on to the TV you could get a small/medium electric shock  :o from the screen this also happens for up to 20 mins after use, i can find no additional earths on the chassis has anyone got any ideas?. thanks in advance, terry.

Some monitor cases are now sprayed internally with a metalized (conductive) paint and it used to make a good ground when everything is all enclosed & assembled. In many instances this was done to meet FCC radiation & interference requirements in order to be sold in the USA.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the info, if you are right is there another way to earth the chassis as there are two metal baided lines that come from the flat circuit board on the back of the glass TV tube. these go either side of the screen and i have screwed them into the wood of the cabinet but i have noticed that sometimes when you power up the TV a spark jumps along this line for a few inches then dissapates, any ideas?, thanks in advance, terry.

hi teksta1701

i know this is a bit off topic but i have just bought a sony trinitron that i will have to remove from its case in order to fit into my cabinet.

i was wondering if you had any other issues, handy hints or resources on the web that could make my construction process run a bit smoother (eg Monitor installed and me still alive)

cheers mate

No offense intended, but when you powered that sucker up the FIRST TIME and saw that spark, why didn't you unplug it and take a different approach?  Do you WANT to die a hot electrical death?

Do you by any chance have this behind plexi / glass? You might just be getting a static charge from the initial degaussing.
