Arcade Art for vectoring resource - an idea
« on: November 24, 2004, 04:10:28 am »
Yo folks!
I'm sure by now you've noticed me kicking about here much more commonly recently   ;D Heck, I've even submitted a few vectors myself hehe!

I've been having a few emails with ZORG whose done loadsa stuff in the library. Basically I run RetroKade Limited web site at : http://www.retrokade.com/

We have 150 dedicated, 100% real, Arcade machines : our plan is to be a kinda museum, a repository and hence I love the art library and indeed when I do something that

Well I for one would be interested in any source of high quality scans for me to vectorise. And I have no problem if people want to use that artwork commercially to produce repros  for sale etc, so long as the digital artwork itself is also available to the public (i.e.  I would want to be able to upload it to the http://www.localarcade.com archive)

So count me in.

in order to add some more words.

IMHO getting correct source in order to reproduce the original artwork IS the point to each one of us trying to trace the riginal artwork as accurate as possible.

I, and some of us have asked various time for scans, Hi res photos in order to have a good starting points, and always fail to have the material.

ravage proposition seem's correct for me. it offers to scan at full size with a good accuracy the original art. and as it is involved in some comercial repro it mentioned some tricks that are important in order to get a correct and valuable sources. he knows the job ;)

If I corectly understood his offer, he propose to provide scan to the comunity in order to have the art reproed. the point that can annoy some of you guys, is that he mentioned the possibility to run a batch of files from the art we traced from the scans, and sell them. this has the merit to be clear and cliamed. I prefer to know that the art I'm tracing will maybee used for comercial purpose (and this way I can accept or decline, being fully conscient of what it involves) than discover that my art was stollen by some reproers, without any words  >:(

futhermore ravage claims that the art will be publicly available, maybee with a small delay.

Obviously the proviso is that all vectored artwork is upped to the library, perhaps if I'm definitely going to do a repro then 1 run is made before the file goes public.

he is asking for some conterpart from us, well let see how the things will go. maybee this means that I have to trace some art that where not on my whish list, but this will lead to having one more piece of art in the library.

given those points, it's seems to me a good deal.

otherway, I'm wondering why so few people responded ? even arguments verssu this proposition may be of interest, I'll   would like to hear (grumpfff read) them.
