Build your own EEPROM burner
« on: November 22, 2004, 03:11:37 pm »
I have recently come into posession of a bunch of dead CPS1 boards. they don't work due to battery suicide and I would like ot get them up and running again.

It's a reasonably easy fix as described here
http://www.arcadecollecting.com/dead/dead.html

but you do need to burn a new eeprom to get them up and running again.

Anyone know where I can find instructions online (and perferably free software to run it) that will allow me to burn eeproms? I'm sure I saw some schematics a few years back for home built burners that pluged into your serial/paralell port but damned if I can find them now.

Haven't ever seen one, but would be neat if somebody could find it.  I've noticed that some EPROM programmers go on eBay for around $50.  I'm not sure which one would be the best one though.

There's a build it yourself kit out there made by Willem, I've seen bunch of people on Ebay selling the finished kits. I'd check willem.com for the info on getting the kits. I'm in the market myself actually, I'm looking to reprogram some SNES mask roms. (With other games of course!) :D

Willem.com doesn't exist, but a Willem.org does.  I'm not sure if they sell kits there or not, but it seems to be info about the Willem based programmers.
