Artwork paths in MAMEWAH
« on: November 22, 2004, 11:13:24 am »
NOTE: I'm posting this in both the MAMEWAH forum and the AC forum to get as much feedback as possible. If you've already seen this thread and don't want to read it again, turn back now!

Does anyone use all 10? If so, what are they set to?

As you may have heard, I'm putting together the much needed MAMEWAH Config program together to help Min out a little and it's coming along swimmingly! I'm just putting the final touches in now and one of these is setting default artwork paths.

Right now I have the defaults set to:

Code: [Select]
artwork_1_image_path                      snap
artwork_2_image_path                      marquees
artwork_3_image_path                      cabinets
artwork_4_image_path                      titles
artwork_5_image_path                      cpanel
artwork_6_image_path                      flyers
artwork_7_image_path
artwork_8_image_path
artwork_9_image_path
artwork_10_image_path
movie_preview_path                        movies
movie_artwork_no                          1

I took a look at the layouts on JCrouse's site and ScreenShotArchive, but all of them seem to only use snapshots, marquees and cabinets. I'd like to make the defaults use the most sensible (i.e. the most common) as possible, so I'm soliciting your feedback :)

To whet your appetite and (hopefully) get you ready to reply, here are a couple screenshots of my WIP:

Main screen, with the COM port settings window

Emulator config screen

Emulator config screen, with the list configuration menu

Emulator config screen, with the (advanced) artwork configuration window

I hope to make MAMEWAH Config as user-friendly as possible, so much so that most people can do it without reading any documentation at all (well, it's a goal ;)).  It's hard to make a complex program (MAMEWAH) look simple through it's config program, but I think I did a pretty good job.

  Any questions? Comments?

-Steve

Edit:  The previews don't seem to be doing the program justice now that they're resizing.  Check out the thread over in the MAMEWAH boards to see them in all their glory!

Those defaults seem fine to me, but I've never used more than 2 artwork paths in a layout.

Does it work at 640x480, by chance, or does it extend off the screen?

P.S. if you don't like the resizing, you could add the url tag to the images.
Code: [Select]
[url=http://site.com/myimage.jpg][img]http://site.com/myimage.jpg[/img][/url]

Yeah, me neither.   But I'd like to establish some sort of "standard" to go by. So far, TimO is the only one I know of who publishes layouts using some of the non-MAME artwork.  I've sent him an email to see if he's willing to cooperate with me, so we'll see.

Does it work at 640x480, by chance, or does it extend off the screen?

Trying to fit all those options in a window that will fit on an 800x600 resolution screen was hard enough! Yikes!  I can say that it's nothing like the old MAMEWAH Setup where it took as much space as you could give it on your screen.  I tried to make it as compact as possible, and 800x600 was what I ended up with. If you download it and have any suggestions on improving it, I'm like a field of corn.

P.S. if you don't like the resizing, you could add the url tag to the images.

Thanks for the tip! I'll practice by re-editting that message :)

I didn't think this would be a problem initially (I was visualising configuring on my desktop), but thinking about it it will be more likely I will have to edit stuff on my cab.  I just mentioned this at MameWorld but just to say 'I'm in the same boat' :) - see my suggestion @ MameWorld...

I use a custom artwork file set for my own control panel images.  Make sure you have at least one set to "custom".  Probably point it to a folder named "custom_art_1"?

Nah, it's not like that at all. The default settings are just that, defaults. You can really make them whatever you want.. you just have to click a few extra times :)

Anyway, new release:  Check it out now (the funk soul brutha)
