phew! successfully modchipped my xbox!
« on: November 20, 2004, 09:11:17 pm »
i am now very pleased - seems that i sucessfully installed my xecuter 3 modchip

took about 2 hours and the soldering was a bit nerve
racking. my hand was not steady and my soldering iron
bit was too large for the job so had to take it very slow.

hardest part was what is called the LPC rebuild where
you have to rewire various points on the motherboard
(VERY small solder points) to the connector that you
have to install which the xecuter pcb plugs into.

luckilly i bought one of these to help...

http://www.baldbouncer.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/90?osCsid=a85c89c16dd44ea2b34f1f81577d5ce0

unfortunately it didnt line up quite right with the solder points on the motherboard (probably my fault!) - so ended up spending ages making the connections right.

i think LPC rebuild is only required 1.6

just seen the xecuter3 install instructions for versions 1.0 to 1.5 is much easier - not so much soldering required! only has one difficult solder point (D0) the rest of the soldering is relatively easy. if you need a hand let me know.

just tested and sucessfully installed latest xecuter bios. also verified that can still boot in disabled mode and play fifa2005! everything looking good - now need to test with a backed up game

only downside is that not possible to play online
using "xbox live" service with modchipped machines -
believe that microsoft have way to detect modchipped
machines and will ban you from the service (even when modchip is not activated).
