Rom question
« on: November 20, 2004, 10:41:07 am »
Alright dudes, whats happening?
I'm very new to mame and i wonder if anyone can help me please?
I have some roms in Zip format, i put them in the roms folder but Mame won't find them.
Do i have to create a shortcut somewhere or do they maybe just not work?

Thanks in advance for any help.  :)

You need to tell us exactly what version of Mame you have, say it be Mame32 or regular Mame. It also would not hurt to read all the readme files that are included with Mame, since you will find exactly what you are looking for in those files.

Read them over and if you need any more help let us know.

Also maybe you're using ROMs that aren't supported for that version of Mame, or using ROMs for a game that Mame doesn't support?

Hi gang thanks for the info so far.
I'm using mame32 ver. 0.36.
The game i am trying to use is pole position, i placed it in the roms folder and did a game update several times but the game does not show in any game list.
This also happened with world rally and 720.
As i said i'm very new to this but i would have thought that if the roms just wern't working it would say on the games list.

Thanks Fellas.

Get yourself a new version of Mame, first of all:

You are using an ancient version of Mame32. Perhaps it does not support those games.

I believe .36 will support those games. What you need to do is tell Mame32 where the roms are. I can't recall at the moment, but there should be a menu somewhere where it has something along the lines of "paths" or "directories", in there you need to specify the folder where your roms are. That should do the trick.

Make sure your ROM set matches your MAME version.

When I got into cab building, my first move was setting up MAME .83... with like a .72 ROM set.

Very annoying.  :P
