Funky.  You could use some more explanation on the rotation of the panels, took me a few minutes from the pics to figure out what is going on there with the removable panel pieces.

Star Wars vector on an LCD makes Baby Jesus cry.

Click on the Rotating Panels link under Projects.  There are some good shots of the rotation (also under Artwork there is a link to a vector CP demo).  I'll try to take some better photos.

The monitor is a 17.5" LCD and the vector games look great.

Yes, I could not agree more ...... please please add pictures of the rotation in progress.   I am assuming the side pieces come up as well for rotation but would love to see it in action.    Do the side pieces fold up or do they have to be removed in order to rotate.

Also, how do you lock down the controls once you rotated to a set of controls you want to use.

Also also .... how do you stop rotating so the wires do not get completed twisted ......

great work by the way !

Ooh, that's pretty much what I was looking for and how I'd concluded it works.  Nice stuff.  What's going to happen when one of those controls eventually fails, though?  All that stuff crammed into that tiny triangle could be a BIIIIITCH to work on.

The side pieces swing up on on concealed Soss hinges.

The weight of the lowered side panels keeps the square and tri-panel tightly in place.

In terms of wiring:
The square panel is fed with a single CAT5 wire that wraps around the axel out the back.  It only allows enough slack to make a complete rotation.
The tri-panel is fed with 2 USB cables sheathed in hard plastic wrap.  The tri-panel is centered on the yoke and can only rotate 1  position to each side.

The panels can be removed, but you're right the tight fit makes repairs challenging.

I looked into your Dual Strike photos and explanation of the mappings.    I am not sure if this matches with my mappings.   You might want to check out my site and see how I wired up to all the buttons and Dpad directions.
Not quite sure I agree with how you should wire the Dual Strike to get X and Y and other buttons... but it may be that I just misunderstood your mapping explanation.

Anyway, check out how I wired my Dual Strikes...

http://unclet.arcadecontrols.com/MomsArcade/MomsArcadeDualStrikePics.html

Also, how many Dual Strikes hack did you do?    I did seven for my 6 rotating panel driving cabinet.

My mappings are different from yours, but they work very well.  I tried to set up the matrix with the least amount of wires.  I am using 1N4148 diodes to prevent masking.

I have 2 Dual Strike hacks.  1 for the yoke and top fires and 1 for the gas & brake pedals.

Excellent job. Probably the best control panel I've seen so far. Your site really makes me think. I never thought how simple it would be to program an avr but you site shows probably the simplest programmer I've seen. Very nice job on the cabinet too.

Thank you much man, using that for trackball lighting will be sweet. :) You wouldn't happen to have another one of those chips on hand would you?

Also, I just looked at the schematic and could see what everything did besides the .01 cap? It appears to be wired in parralel to the main circuit, what purpose does it serve? Please pardon if this is a stupid question, I only have a basic working knowledge of electronics.

Sorry, I don't have any extra AVR's.  I'm using the Atmel AT90S2313 chips which I bought on Ebay for $2.70. These chips are almost always available on Ebay.  Also check Froogle  because the chips are often sold new for under $4.  Despite the confusing documentation, these chips are very easy to work with.
The cap is connected in parallel to the power.  This is a common application to smooth and filter.  Feel free to IM me if you have questions.

ill admit im not a big fan of rotating inspector gadget control panels but this is the best looking one so far. im amazed that you could even think up the design and make it come together so nice. the only way someone could top this is to make a 6 sided 9 pod rubiks cube cab  ;D

Ya, like anyone could get the controls they want without being a puzzle genius.  The only way I can solve one of those bad boys is to take all the stickers off and re-arrange them.

MAMEY!

Got the last e-mail back today, it was a unanimous vote.  I asked which category it should go in, and we all agreed that since it has good artwork, design, contraptions and whatnot, it goes in the "everything else" category.  Congrats!

Love the animated GIF and video, best video I've seen since the Paris Hilton one.

Do you have stops on it so the cables don't get tangled?

The triangle panel has stops.  The square doesn't but you can feel the tension long before the cable gets tangled.
