Wedging a 27" TV into a 19" cabinet?
« on: November 17, 2004, 12:25:35 pm »
These are the dimensions I measured for the lexan for the front opening of my Space Duel cabinet: 16-1/2" high x 23-3/4" wide.

According to CaveCreations (http://www.cavecreations.com/tv2.cgi),  the viewable area dimensions of a 27" TV are 21.6"(w) x 16.2"(h).

Thus, if I find a good deal on a 27" w/ S-Video input and take it out of it's case,  I could turn it on it's side and wedge it in there, right?

(paigeoliver talked about doing this in this thread: http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=27276)

If those are the dimensions of the VIEWABLE AREA, then it definitely won't fit.  You're gonna need to add to that the non-viewable areas of the tube and the mounting brackets.

FWIW, the overall dimensions of the tube and mounting brackets on my 27" monitor are ~24" w x 22.75" h.  If you stripped off some of the bracketing and got creative, you could get the height down to about 19.5".

Presumably the required dimensions should be similar, if not identical for the guts of a 27" TV.

You can often shoehorn a 27" VERTICALLY into a classic cabinet, but not horizontally.

For horizontal shoehorning you will need a 25" set, and it will just BARELY fit.
