Are there any frontends that work with Mame32?
« on: November 14, 2004, 08:48:32 pm »
If not, is it possible (i'm sure it is?) to alter a frontend to read the mame roms from C:\mame32\roms instead of c:\mame\roms? That way I won't have to duplicate them for when I want to use a frontend.

See I want a frontend that will actually appear like a real arcade would have when using multiple games...... I'm thinking minwah so I'll check that out

Mamewah will work with MAME32, but why would you want to do that, it just adds overhead. Use Mamewah with windows command line MAME. :)

I'm going to primarily be using mame32 because it's so easy to use, but if people come over or I have a party I want to have a frontend that simulates what a real arcade was like when it had multiple games....mamewah seems pretty good.

What would I do if I want the player to be able to exit the current game using the front end but NOT be able to exit the front end to windows?

In mamewah there is an option to set the default exit action. Set this to 'Exit and Shutdown' and you will not be able to get back to windows without goin through some menus and or using some shifted keys or something along those lines

Well if a player knows how to escape the game I don't want him being able to use the same button/command to escape the frontend in any way at all, is that possible?

For MAME when you're in a game, press TAB goto Input General and change the UI Cancel to whatever you want.

For Mamewah, change the EXIT_TO_WINDOWS in the default.ini file of the ctrlr folder to whatever you want.

Why do games take so long to load up?

Like say I load Ms. Pac-Man it'll say

Loading:

Ms. Pac-Man
for a mintue
then go to a black screen for like 2 minutes
I have skip_validitychecks     1
in my mame.ini

No the frontend is using Mame the regular one, not mame32
it takes forever to load using mamewah.

Sounds like skip_validitychecks is not working - make sure your mame.ini file is being parsed.  An easy way to do this is change something obvious, like disable sound.

I would for now just set 'resolution 640x480', rather than 'resolution auto'.  resolution auto doesn't always pick the best mode...
