Best X-Box wheel?
« on: November 12, 2004, 04:25:25 pm »
I'm not sure if this had been discussed recently, but I'm looking for opinions on the best wheel out for Xbox right now; wanna ask for one for x-mas, but I'm not sure where to start.  The driving games I currently play are Project Gotham 2 and Burnout 3, if that helps. Thanks all!

I discovered this thread looking for the same answer.  I, too am playing PGR2.  Is there another game?  I didn't think so.  Anyway, the thumbstick just doesn't offer the subtlety I'm looking for.  Ever try to correct a turn at a hundred miles an hour with two choices?: straight or 90 degrees.  Totally sucky.  I've just got to get a wheel.  Which one?

I used to have the universal MC2 (ps2,xbox,GC) and I thought it was pretty good.  It's always been easier for me to use the controler though so I returned it.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

I haven't found a single wheel I like enough to stop using my controller.  And racing games are about the only things I play on the xbox.

I'll take Toca 2 over PGR2 though ;)

The best XBOX wheel is the Lotus wheel, but it's way discontinued.  :(

Just thought I'd post an update - I got the Mad Catz MC-2 Universal wheel for xmas, and so far I've played PGR2 and Burnout 3 with it - and I definately dig it! Haven't gotten used to it quite enough to do well in PGR yet, but I LOVE playing Burnout 3 with it (as long as you're in first person mode).  It somehow feels even faster with the wheel (or at least you feel more "in the game").  Haven't tried it with GT3 yet, though I will in anticipation of GT4...

It's a shame that people build PC drivers into their games (or that MS didn't build them into the OS).  I have a Logitech MOMO force feedback wheel on the PC and it is a work of art.  It's USB, and the Xbox is a PC, so it would work if only there were drivers.

Oh well...that was a useless post.

The Smartjoy has PS/2 inputs, not USB.  Unless you can convert your PC wheel into PS/2 outputs, it won't work.
