PS2 USB KE
« on: November 11, 2004, 05:53:48 pm »
Enough acronyms for you?
Is it possible to use a usb keboard encoder with the ps2?
Or would I have to do it the hard way and hack the gamepads?

I made a 4 player CP for a friend, and I want to know if there is an easy way to connect it to the ps2.

Anyone?

Only way I know of using a keyboard on a ps2 is with the new SmartJoy Frag available HERE
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Only specific PS2 games support a USB mouse and keyboard (mostly just FPS games).  There is no generic support unfortunally.

That's the point of SmartJoy Frag though, they claim that it's fully programamble and will work with any game by emulating the buttons and sticks with keys and mouse...

Can this thing emulate multiple controllers?  Meaning, if I use my 4 player CP, will it allow me to use 4 ps2 games?  Or must I but a seperate module for each controller?

Unfortunately, I think you need one for each player.

no...these games are looking for nothing but a usb contorller of some sought

when you play regular games say tekken, it not looking for usb...its a matter of the game..  i don't think your idea is going to fly and curious why are you trying to do somthing like this

I made a four player CP for my friend with a single keyboard encoder in it.

My friend also mentioned that at some point in the future, he might want me to convert it to PS2.

This looked a lot easier than rewireing the whole thing.
