MAME config problems
« on: November 08, 2004, 11:53:57 am »
Trying to get a new computer setup but I'm having some problems.
My main MAME computer (1.7ghz, 256mg ram, Geoforce2, WinXp) runs fine on a 21" computer monitor. No problems.
The new computer (1.6ghz, 128mb ram, onboard video, WinXp) the following problems:

1st - Some games (newer fighting games) the game is not full screen it's a small window in the middle of the screen.
2nd - The graphics are pretty pixated, not clear looking at all - this is on the same 21" monitor as well.
3rd - Can't remove the in-game bezels (1943 etc) .
4th - Game are loading way too slow - this problem is probably due to the amount of ram but want to make sure.

I'm using Noname MAME but I've also tried regular MAME with the same results - MAMEWAH as the FE.
I've also copied Noname MAME folder from my main computer to the new one but the problems continue.
Need to make sure that it's config problem and not hardware before I start buying a new vid card, more ram, etc.
Help is greatly appreciated

Thanks, AlexC.

Disable all Monitor rotations internally.
Match screen resolution to your monitor and Set it in mame.ini file.
Enable Hardware streaching in mame.ini
Do you have some 3D graphics softwares installed?

It's probably the onboard video killing you. My laptop does the same thing.

1st - Some games (newer fighting games) the game is not full screen it's a small window in the middle of the screen.

THATS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WHEN RUNNING SOME GAMES!

is it the street fighter 2 games? and alpha 3 and xmen street fighter, marvel capcom?

none of the neo geo ones though, just the capcom fighters?

i also have the problem with final fight, 1943 and a few others...

all capcom

if anyone can figure this out that'd be great!
::it's not his onboard because I run it with a tnt2 and it does the same exact thing!::

Ok got all my problems fixed  :D , well all except the slow loading but I think that's a ram problem.
For others that are having config problems I found an easy solution.
Here's what I did :
I downloaded a FE called "Easymame" I used version 2.0 (already had downloaded before)
from : http://www.mameworld.net/easymame/download.html
and placed the program in my MAME folder.
Then I ran the FE, chose the .exe file.
Once FE is up, go under "file" and choose "default MAME options"
From there I went to "Direct3d" tab and  chose : use Direct3D -
that fixed small window in Sf/Capcom games
Then I went to the " Misc" tab and unchecked the : Use Bezels option and that took care of those annoying bezels on games like 1943 and such.
Also as a bonus on that same page there is an option to "Skip Disclaimer" and "Skip gameinfo" , check those 2 boxes and you will bypass the "OK" and select screen and go straight to the game !!!  ;D
Once you made the changes you want hit "OK"  on the bottom right
and the changes are made. Exit FE and hop back to your favorite FE and enjoy.
There are some other great options to play with but its getting late.
Hopefully this will help someone else, I know it was bugging the heck out of me.
Thanks all.

A TNT2? ::) dcninja, buddy, spend $40 and get a real video card.  ;D

Seriously tho, I've never had that issue with MAME until I tried to run it on my weak sauce (P3 600mhz) laptop. My old Radeon 7200 always just defaulted to a full screen. An easy to use FE like MAMEclassic is what I use to mess with screen settings and whatnot, maybe give it a shot.

And that's why you need a real video card.  ;D
