Did you change the directory mamewah.ini points to to get the new layout?

Has the layout file name been renamed to match the emulator name (assuming you are using mamewah 1.5+)? If so, you may need to look in the layout file for paths to grahoics, etc as well.

Sounds like you have something wrong to me.  Read \mamewah\docs\layouts.txt & see if that sheds any light.

Also, read \mamewah\mamewah.log to see if any problems have been recorded there.

all you should have to do is rename thes file properly, see the doc Minwah mentions.
In a few instances of my own layouts, the background picture was specified inside the layout itself, so i had to edit the .lay file with notepad and change the name there, but that was about it.

Have you searched here for the MAMEWAH FAQ?

I'm having this same problem, and it's driving me nuts, I'm new to mamewah, so forgive me if I'm doing something retarded.

I just made one up in it's editor, saved it, told mamewah's ini file where to find it, and it won't work. at all. all I get is that annoying default layout.

I can't really say anything that hasn't been said already...

But make sure you are not pointing to the .lay file in 'layout' part - just the folder name, eg 'myskin' which should look as follows:

\mamewah\layouts\myskin\layouts.lay
