ArcadeVGA card and Direct 3D
« on: November 08, 2004, 06:10:31 am »
Is there an issue with Ultimarc's arcadeVGA card and directx 9.0c. My Direct X panel reports that the following (3 items) are not running and certain emulators that require Direct 3D won't run:

directdraw acceleration
direct 3d acceleration
agp texture acceleration

Should I go back to directX 8 and if so does anyone know of a download anywhere.

I am experiencing the same error.  Virtuanes and FCEU_NES won't run full screen.  I get "DirectDraw: Error Setting Display Mode".  If someone know's what's up please let me know.

Add me to the list with the same problem as well.  Just noticed it last night and was just going to post here about it.  I have the newer 9200 card.

Small update...

I had some free time so I whipped up a fresh XP installation, no service packs, default directx 8.1... Same problem, "DirectDraw: Error Setting Display Mode" so downgrading your directx will not make a difference.  I'm going to fire off an email to Andy to see if this is something he can help us with.

I have no problemo at all, did you installed the ArcadeVGA drivers from the ultimarc CD?

ArcadeVGA (old version, wich I have) 7200 does NOT support 320x240, but 321x240. This can cause some problems in some emulators.

You may have the graphic accelerator set to minimum, that have disabled DirectX 3D.
Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

I do have the older AVGA 7200 and I installed drivers I got dowloaded from this forum somewhere.  I had problems with the drivers provided on the CD.  I will check the exact driver version when I get home.  If we ruled out Direct X 9.0 then I suspect it might be a resolution setting because I can run the emulators in a normal window but get the error when I switch to full screen.

ArcadeVGA 7200
WinXP
DirectX 9.0

:-[ Well don't I feel very silly now...  I completely forgot that the ArcadeVGA card didn't support 320x240.  I made a custom resolution of 321x240 in FCEU and bingo - it went full screen.  Thanks!

Yup that did the trick! FCEU now works.  I think VirtuaNes is better though and I would like to get that running but it doesn't have a custom res setting.

Argh, all is not well for me afterall.  I needed to setup a 180 degree monitor rotation for my cocktail cabinet in the ATI Control Panel.  Once I did that I started getting the same "DirectDraw: Error Setting Display Mode" error, regardless of the resolution.  Any thoughts?

Still no luck no matter what I do.  Can someone else with an ArcadeVGA and FCE Ultra try this?  Rotate your screen 180 in the ATI Control Panel and try running FECU in fullscreen mode.  Thanks.

Correction- VirtuaNes does have a manual resolution in the ini file.  You can enter the 321X240 there.
