problems after playing with frontends

i just recently started playing around with different frontends on my box and went back to mame32's frontend and suddenly i can't start a game.  i can select it but double-clicking has no effect nor does right clicking and selecting start.  i even tried moving to old and new versions of mame32 with no avail.......

any suggetions?

(i removed all the frontends and tried that)
