Disable Switchable PSU in Japanese Cabs
« on: November 05, 2004, 09:10:52 pm »
Since ive started my arcade project ive recieved about 5 emails on how to go about disabling the switchable power supply in my japanese cabinet. This process of course is necessary in all cabs that will be using a PC instead a PCB.  the reason behind this being that the PSU will fail,or worse without a load being appied to it..but this will only apply to Japanese cabs for now.
Im assuming that many of the japanese sit down style cabs are similary constructed, and i will use mine as an example..

the power from the wall comes into the cabinet here.
in this section there is main power switch, which protudes through the bottom of the cab, and a fuseable link after which the circuit is split in two directions..
leads going to the right have their power diverted thru an AC Noise Filter (which is the small black box) and a fuseable link.
these are the leads that feed the monitor..

This is the lead snaking its way up to the monitor.

Here,The leads on the left go into the jamma harness and  route their way to the switchable power supply. which in this case is in the front of the cab behind a service door.
(what are those two wires i see disconnected there? hmm, ive never noticed that till now :O )

Here you can see the Switchable power supply on the left with the word "taito" on it..
the leads from the jamma harness terminate here conveniently in a couple of molex connectors which as you can see i have disconnected from the PSU unit.
