Political Thread Oath
« on: November 04, 2004, 04:21:08 pm »
I <insert name here> will no longer start or seriously debate a political topic on the ArcadeControl/ Everything Else Forum again.

As the Everything Else used to be a place for funny / wity stuff like the Tron Guy or Sabrina websites.  Not for deep hearted political discussions that have killed the chartacter of the ArcadeControls Forum.

We need to start rebuilding the Everything forum and we can start by letting the Political Threads fade away.

And by adding your name to this list, you can start the healing process.

TA, I refer you to the Message board rules:

Rules?  We don't need no steeenkin rules!  Well, maybe one.  Be nice to each other.  We're serious about this one.  Disagree, debate, argue at will - but please be respectful.  Messages that are antagonistic or contain profanity will likely be deleted, and repeat offenders banned from posting.  Oh, also - I do not mind the occasional emulation related or other off-topic post.  This is an online community as well as a discussion forum after all.  However, please do bear in mind the intent of the board is to discuss arcade controls and related topics.

NO ROM REQUESTS

Thanks!

GGKoul, Thank you.  I have been lurking/reading the political posts for awhile.  Its become a morbid fascination, kinda like a train wreck.
It used to be a bit interesting, sometimes funny, now it just reads as desperate and pathetic.  Time for all of this mean-spirited, hateful, BS to end.  Someone won, someone lost, who cares its over, life goes on.  We all have our beliefs, we don't have to be right or wrong, we are all different, it's OK.
The crap that masquerades here as political discussion is just another excuse for people to try to force their beliefs on someone who will never agree with them, so give it a rest.  Quit showing what asses you can be to one another and lets get on with what we came here for, a respite from all of the seriousness and chaos going on in the world.
Let's get back to having some fun, this has run its course.
Respectfully, ARCADIAC!

I agree. I used to quite enjoy the everything else forum, but the election turned it ugly, ugly, ugly. I've posted in the car thread, and the GTA: San Andreas thread some this week in hopes that some non-political activity will restore this forum to the fun place it used to be.

Let's go back to having fun in here guys!

Yeah, I have already ducked out of the political threads.  Way too much bad blood for a place that is supposed to be fun.

It really sad how divided the US is right now.

Nice to see someone else who wants these political posts to fade away.  Those who don't probably have no life so by continuing to post messages that disparages others or even better, a remark along the the highly intelligent lines of 'bwahahaha", it gives them a sense of purpose.  I agree that the forum has gotten out of hand and it's time to move on.

I'm done.  It's out of my system.  I agree, too much bad blood. Except for this one election, we have more in common than we have differences.

This is my LAST poltical post.

A presidential election is always a time where people will discuss/debate/argue about their political views.  This election especially was an extremely volatile one, and discussion about it is to be expected.  I think you're going a bit too far insinuating that those who wish to talk about it have no life.  Of course none of us are going to change the outcome of the election, but I think it's a good think when people actually debate and express differing views on extremely meaningful topics.  Unfortunately, i'd say only about 30% of the posts thus far have been of any informational value, but that's to be expected in a public forum.

Your dislike of the content these threads gives you no right to insult others who decide to post them.  Basically, until Saint decides that he doesn't want political threads, you really have no say in the matter.  After all, this is the "everything else" forum.

It is EXTREMELY easy to determine from the titles which threads are political and which are not.  If you don't like the political threads, don't read them.

Oh, and as protection due to the day/time of this post, the only reason I'm posting at 7:45PM on Friday night is because I unfortunately have 5-6 hours worth of homework to do, and have plans the rest of the weekend..  >:( ;D

Since almost everyone else does want to move on nipsmg, you're definitely in the minority.  And let me help you understand my post a little better.  I'm not saying that anyone who talks about politics has no life.   But those who continually harp on the issue and feel the need to put down another, to me, must not because they apparently have nothing better to do.

I avoid these for the simple reason that these topics have a tendency to turn ugly and make 'enemies'.  If I didn't then Drew probably wouldn't be one of my favorites around here. ;D

My post was less about not moving on, and more about your blanket insult to those who wish to engage in political discussion.

Maybe this board is not the place for politics, but as long as Saint allows the discussion it shouldn't be an issue.  Again, just because you don't like to topics being discussed doesn't mean that those discussing them have no lives.  Don't forget, to those who dislike or don't understand this hobby, everyone on this board "apparently have nothing better to do" and "have no lives".  Blanket statements like that are blatantly inflammatory.

I've got a suggestion....

How 'bout we ask Saint to start a *gasp* POLITICAL FORUM????

That way, EVERYTHING ELSE can go back to being the (non-partisan) eclectic smorgasbord that it once was and TA can keep pretending he's on to something by posting politics on an arcade site, Drew can keep working his headline writing skillz, fredster can keep confounding himself with sundry opposing statements, Santoro can refine his "Rovian-like" ability to rile with a smile, smokes can keep smacking down these wingnut goons, and I can occasionally spaz out and provoke them with witty repartee and cleverly photoshopped liberal propoganda???

Saint, whatdya' think? I know you like discussing politics, why not keep all the craziness confined to that one area?

What was the thread that started this anyway? Was it the F911 post or something earlier?

Maybe MrC and the Kool Aid people can enlighten us.  After all, they apparently know all and see all.

I NipsMG will no longer start or seriously debate a political topic on the ArcadeControl/ Everything Else Forum after this Weekend, as on the board discussion forum, Saint said that after this weekend, he'll request that people quit these topics.   ;D

Until then, expect me to be vocal when I have the time. (which, after tonight won't be much, don't worry).

Ouch...a partisan jab in the same thread, on the same day, in which you made an Oath to abstain from posting in political threads.

Ha Ha,

I've been spending to much time on this site, so with the elections over, I forced myself not to log on to this site Friday.
When I came into work today I was surprised, and relieved to see many threads missing.

To bad I missed the chaos that caused the mass removal.

Me and my employers thank you Saint.
