New Project . . .I'm insane!
« on: November 03, 2004, 09:51:39 pm »
Hi Guys,

For some unknown reason, i bid on a monitorless 25" Neo Geo Candy Cab on Ebay and won.  $102.00 and I picked it up.  It's really small and there's no way to rotate the monitor for vertical games. :(  I mistaked it for the larger 29" cab.  I think that there is some potential here though for a cool sitdown machine.

It is fully JAMMA ready.  I'm just trolling for cool ideas of what i can do with it.  I want to MAME it with an arcade monitor.

Can i use the existing JAMMA harness connected to the controls and just add a computer or do I have to IPAC the controls?

Anybody have any cool ideas of some things I can do with this cab?

Thanks.

You can use a J-Pac rather than an I-Pac for the controls (and video and sound) through the existing JAMMA harness.

As far as what to do with it...  Depends on how much time, money and effort you're looking to invest.  You could get a monitor, toss in a computer and play, or you could go all out with the restoration like DYNAGOD, or maybe something entirely different.

Good buy on the cab - even without the monitor the price ain't half bad.

I think the consensus is: for a jamma machine go with a Jpac.  This way you don't need an ipac and no need to rewire things.

yea disconnect the switchable power supply and go with a j-pac..
that way you can still use the jamma harness with your pcb's.
probobly gonna have to strip that bad boy, i see some rust there..only way to stop the cancer is to remove it completely..
unless of course you dont on keeping it for long and dont really care.
get your self an inexpensive monitor, a ArcadeVGA and a J-pac and youll be all set..
100 bucks... ::) you lucky dog   ;D

Hi Guys,

I'm finally getting the Candy Cade rollin.

I'm going to make a new scored stainless steel control panel utilizing the existing two 8 way mini ball top joysticks, and twelve player buttons (6 a piece).

The cabinet itself will be painted Candy Apple Red.

Here's my first issue though:

I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to go with the Neo Geo style pushbuttons pictured above; or to go with some happs pushbuttons.

Keep in mind, the Player 1, 2, and escape buttons will be the mini Neo Geo pushbuttons seen in the above photo; basically because I don't feel like modifying the area above the control panel.

Any suggestions on which type of buttons I should use for the panel buttons?

Thanks,
Jason

PM richardp171 and get the colors you want from him.  From what I understand they are nice replacements for that style buttons and are $1 each with free shipping.  He has a thread over in B/S/T as well.
