Finally got a cab :)
« on: November 03, 2004, 04:16:18 pm »
Hey all, finally picked up my cab the other day.  It's a Street Fighter II Champ Ed.  in really good shape.  The guy took the board and the locks out but left everything else.  Not bad for 50 bucks.  It was written on it that it had a "monitor problem."  Don't know what that would be....it's a Hantarex Polo 25" with an RCA tube.  All Happ controls, even looks like I can squeeze my trackball in there in the middle.  You know, you can read about others projects all day and hear how so much hard work went into them, but you don't really realize how much work is involved til you have it sitting in your living room.  I was a good 20 minutes just getting it in the house....now it's sort of overwhelming.  I posted a pic...I think I'll keep all the artwork since it looks pretty good.  On the bezel Balrog is spelled wrong....and the coin counter had over 82,000 hits on it....over 21,000 dollars has gone thru.  I even have the coin bucket in there.  I wish I had the original board....but I can deal.  Pretty clean overall...a little dusty...but what a baarrgaaaain....:)

That's a good grab for $50.  I'd just drop in a computer and go.

I like that cab.

Alot.

I dunno why.

Something about the profile I guess...

Maybe just many fond SF2CE memories.  :)

yes, speaker "grills" are routed out right under the marquee.  It's too dark to see in the pic.  It only had one speaker in it but I have a 3 speaker sound system going into it.  I really like how this cab is work friendly.  The control panel is attached to a shelf that slides in and out...sweet...

I own the same cab that you do. I recommend you to keep the control panel, it's pretty good. If you don't like the layout I can help you with covering the holes. I covered up my holes and the are nice.  I got some pictures showing up the process!!

It appears to be a Dynamo cabinet.

I'm keeping it as original as possible.  I like the cp.
I'd like to fit my 3" happ trackball in there somewhere....think it may go in the middle...not sure....and maybe a tornado spinner but that would be pushing it methinks....

i recall playing many a game on that very cab (well not THAT one)  and the control panel is indeed small..
even as a kid i remeber feeling my personal space being viol ated during 2 player games..
i dont think you are going to be packing in a whole bunch of controls into that panel..
i think you should probobly just ,and this is just my opinion of course, clean it up real nice and simply keep the 6 button 2 player config as is.. its a well respected title in a well modeled and attractive cab, youve nothing to be asham,ed of to warrant a full bore maming.. i recomend the stealth mame..
refurb the ewxterior to its original glory, hide a jpac, and a small PC and keep everything stock.
just my 2c

Hey, that control panel it's indeed small. You need to do a lot of measuring to make sure everything fits ok. If like i can post a picture of the control panel.

yeah, due to the angles in the cp I can only fit so much in there :P  I put new j-sticks and buttons in today.  I took the monitor out...which does have a little burn in....to play with another time.  I would love to get a new cp overlay as the one on it is yellowed from age and smoke.  Dunno if it can be cleaned.  And maybe some new decals for the sides...which are faded and one is ripped.
