The Post-Election Car Thread - RUN WHAT YA BRUNG -
« on: November 03, 2004, 04:07:57 pm »
*THREE RULES*

NO import vs. domestic bickering.
NO Kerry's ride vs. Bush's ride.
NO import vs. domestic bickering.

I know what TA drives.  Looks like a nice ride.  What's everyone else running?  Myself, I've got a non-restored 67 chevelle with a 327 that I'll be working on after my parents move.  I've also got a civic that's itching for the turbo on my workbench.  My daily driver is a crapped out s-10 blazer.

Anyone have timeslips/dyno sheets they'd like to brag about?  timeslips prefered  ;)

67 the last year cars were built without emission tests, gas efficiency, and aero dynamics.  They were just built to look good and haul @ss.

67 Dodge Dart with a  225, 4 speed, manual steering, and disk brakes... restoring it to road race, but it's been parked for the last 2 years.

Daily driver 02 Chevy Cavalier.

Imports suck.  Gimme a nice 'Mercan musclecar any day.

Bush's Shelby will whup Kerry's Renault any day of the week.

You’re always in control of your behavior. Sometimes you just control yourself
in ways that you later wish you hadn’t

Heheh, those oldies just don't cut through the wind well.  It's kind of cool though how the front starts to lift at about 100 and you can actually move the steering wheel and still go straight.  Just make sure the road is smooth where you try it. ;)
I like the pre 68 era too.  My dad prefers 68+ (he has a 69 Chevelle).  He says they had better traction (back when he used to race).

Drew drives a Renault?

Aren't those Tr-7's (and similar) trouble prone?  That's all I've ever heard about them.  And you could pull off some monster truck action if you had them together.

lol, yeah, British cars have a bad rep for trouble, especially the electrical system, but the 7's and especially the 8's were pretty modern and trouble free in the last few years of the run.. the 8's were really cool...basically a tr-7 shell with a rover3500 v8 (basically a 3.5 all aluminum v8 made by buick for the 61 special then sold to Rover)  Really fun to drive and build up

I actually did drive over one that i was about to junk, it was just an empty shell, with no glass, but fun none the less.. my neighbors thought i was an idiot...lol

That must be the motor I heard about awhile back.  Somebody transplanted it into a Miata or BMW or something.  It was some kind of Buick/Rover aluminum block.  They must have moved put pretty good being so light.

yeah they do.. there's a guy not to far from me that is world renown for building up tr-8's, and racing them around the country as well.  I miss playing with those.  But it was time to move on.. The Truck I've always had, probably never sell.  But i gave up sports cars for boats, just alot more you can do and not worry about that once a year inspection  :-\

(bad enough here in Mass, i have to put tiny tires on my truck once a year just to get a sticker, lol)

We tried that smog check stuff for a few years in MN.  It turned out to be a hassle so we dumped it.  NO smog checks.  Ever.  For anything.  If you want a bigblock in your car, wedge it in there.  It's all good.  Doesn't matter what motor or what car.

I've got a '72 AMC Javelin with a 401 in my garage.  My uncle gave it to me when he blew the engine.  Someday I'm gonna rebuild it, I used to have loads of fun running around in that car.  I can't decide if I want to do a really nice restoration or to stick a giant blower thruogh the hood and go for maximum power.

Daily driver is a beat-up '92 dakota.  I work downtown, I don't have to worry about it getting stolen. ;D

Yeah, it's a real pain in the ass.. the rules here now are "if it came with it from the factory, it has to be on it... and it has to work"  every 2 years the car has to go on a treadmill test anything newer than an '83.. and every year we have a safety test...and if your vehicle is lifted or lowered/?!? forget it.. i kinda get the nod with silly small tires on my truck, the inspection station guys just laugh.

hehe. it's a 1972 holden torana. as you can see, i haven't exactly looked after it cosmetically in the time i've owned it  ;D. it has a 3 litre 6 in it, which doesn't sound big compared to some of the cars posted here  :o but then it only just tips the scales at a ton (or is it tonne? almost the same weight either way). this model (lj) was one of the few 6 cyl models to win the australian touring car championships.the model after this one came out with 4, 6 or 8 cyl options. dunno why you would have bought a 4 though...

it's unregistered now, but one day i'll get it back on the road. i still take it for the odd spin around the block though :). the only things i don't like is the crappy gearbox and that is has no airconditioning. i live in the tropics so that's a bit of a bummer...

I've got a 4 cyl. 1998 Dodge Neon 2-door.  The one with the small engine.  Um...that is, there were two engines available and mine is the smaller of the two.  Automatic tranny,  manual windows and locks, no cruise control......and all sugar.

The majority of the "jeep" was built from scratch. I did use the hood, windshield frame/cowl area, and parts of the front fenders of a '92 Chevy S-10. The motor is 572 cubic inches, and around 650 HP.  8)

Sweet.  A "real" mini.  I have yet to see one on the road.  Minnesota is known for rust buckets, not old mini's.  I'd love to give one a good flogging.

You may have seen the pic to my ride.  Re-post:

Presently, she has a warmed-up 403 - heads, cam, headers, 2.5" duals, etc.  She will pull hard all the way to redline, whish is 135mph.

I have a high-nickle 425 block, a forged steel 455 crank and a set of C heads sitting in the garage waiting to be turned into a 495CID torque monster.   Anyone know a machinist in NW Ohio that doesnt charge an arm and leg?

Trying to decide if the THM200R4 I plan to put in will hold up - and I'm betting not.

Doubtful. You really need a 700R4 if you want an overdrive auto transmission behind a high HP GM motor.

Thats what I was thinking...  but BOP 700R4s are hard to find.

I know GN/GNX guys are running strong 200R4s, but their torue is a little different than a hi-cube BBO.

I might just get a bulletproof THM400 and a gear verdors O/D.

Here I am trying to fire her up.

My buddy is Grave Digger driver Chuck Pauken.  You can check him out here:

http://www.gravedigger.com/drivers/

He was doing a show near me, and busted up the truck pretty good.  Rather than ship the truck to NC to fix, then ship it back up to us two weeks later for another show, WE got to work on it in his brother's shop.

He did a little "test drive" in the parking lot, but none of us had a video camera that day. >:(

no way!! i saw this in kill devil hills!! the grave digger is world renowned so i just assumed it was some kinda replica!! oh man, shoulda got a photo...

They actually have 8 grave diggers so they can do shows all over at the same time.  The one we're working on just happens to be Chuck's old Excalibur truck he sold to PACE racing, and it was converted to Grave Digger.
