Dreamcast emulators help
« on: November 01, 2004, 05:53:51 pm »
Can anyone help me get emulators/hombrew games working on the dreamcast?  When I try to play it, it just says it is an invalid game disc.  Anyone else encountered this problem?

Thanks!

ha! you've got to burn it using the proper tools and methods and stuff

you probably didn't make it self boot

I only looked up this a little bit, but I burned a "disc juggler" file with alcohol 120%.

How do I make it bootable?

Also, I heard something about certain systems not working.  Could this be the problem?

from what i remember, in order to be bootable, the disc must have a 2 minute audio track as the 1st track.  the data track must follow.  the dreamcast must be mil-cd compatible, (most are; only the last run or so can only read gd-roms and they are relatively rare).  i have also heard of people having burner and media specific issues.

I never had any luck w/burning discjuggler files with Alcohol 120%.  Just download DJ eval and run it.  It's slow but the disc will work.

Also most .nrg(s) burn better on nero 5.5

Nothing witty here...move along.

Thanks, I finally got them working.
It was either the burner, burning speed, or medial quality. (or a combination)

I just tried it on a different computer (still using alcohol 120%--I love that program)

New question: is it possible to extract the plain files from one of these homebrew games or backed up dreamcast games?

I just love tinkering with every little file on them.

LOL

use discjuggler .cdi files
get ur torrents off suprnova

burn the selfboot images with discjuggler mode 2 raw write

it's very easy

get sbi from sbiffy and make your own self boot files if homebrew games aren't

simple stuff, just look it up

btw- I have a complete american set of burned dc games (in addition to my 60 real dc games) and ton of homebrew and jap stuff...

so use the method I just told you... it works

oh and burn them as slow as possible

the faster speed the higher fail read rate

also remember that they might not ALWAYS self boot, you might have to try them in your dc 2 or 3 times, sometimes they just won't self boot

dreamcastninja, please read my reples before posting.
For the last time, I am now able to burn the games.
I want to know how how to extract the files from one of these games.

If you don't know how, thats fine, but please stop telling me how to do something I already said I know.

Once you burn the disk, just copy and paste the files from the CD to your hard drive.  Either that or mount the disk image using Alcohol 120% or Daemon tools, then copy the files out of the mounted image.
