Mamewah .97 to 1.52
« on: November 01, 2004, 05:40:23 pm »
I have an ArcadePC cabinet setup with MAMEWAH .97 as my front-end.  I have it configured perfectly with layouts and game lists for everything on the cabinet.  I've spent a lot of time on this project.  So my question is, how easy/difficult is it to upgrade to MAMEWAH 1.52?  Will I have to start from scratch or can I port my config files from .97 over and take advantage of the new features?  Thanks.

You'll have to configure v1.52 from scratch...but you can just install it to a different folder and continue to use your v0.97 install until you are happy...

While Minwah is right, I found that it's actually no that bad to port over, for example the layout files just need to be renamed with the new convention (emu1-main.jog becomes mame-main.jpg for example) but you shouldn't have to change the contents of your .lay file.
If your lists were generated using catver filters, you should be able to re-create them easily. If you had manually added or deleted games to the list however, you might have to do that again.
So if there are new featurs you really want, it's probably worth the effort to chnage the configuration over,

Thanks for the quick replies!  Honestly, I don't know what the new features are.  Is it worth updating?

Mouse support in the game list is worth it alone, it still puts a stupid smile on my face and I don't even have my trackball hooked up yet.

Overall though, its a really great release, I definitely say its worth it.  I did what Minwah said and made a seperate directory for the new verision and played with it until I was happy.  If I got stuck and wanted to play a game, my .97 wasn't affected at all.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

Mouse support sounds great since I have removable panels including trackball, spinner, and driving :)  One of the features I've been wanting is the ability to continue playing music in the background after MAME launches.  Not sure if this is a feature of MAMEWAH or MAME.  I do like the way the song continues from where it left off when I quit back to MAMEWAH.
