Is there someway to make a ClrMame DAT file for Zinc?
All my Zinc roms are ancient and need some renaming/updating.

unfortunately, not yet

Note:  zinc might have maybe a few bug fix releases in it and that's it, so I'd reccomend copying zinc related roms from your mame folder to a dedicated folder as at one point mame will obviously keep renaming/updating the roms and zinc wont.

Soooo... if I have a set of "ZINc" ROMs, are they the same or different than the MAME versions?

Can I just drop MAME ROMS right into my ZINc directory now? Man that would be convienient. And any existing working ZINc ROMS need renaming, right?

Must... download... now!!!  :o

Wow, I'm having issues.

I assumed that I could just drop ZINc 1.0 into my old directory and go, but now it's not running. It's giving me a missing ROM file message, although I do have them and they're named correctly...

What the..?

Okay... so the new ZINc works more like MAME, but my understanding is that you need a complete up to date MAME ROMS set (0.87u1) to use it, and it no longer uses the old ZINc file firmware.zip. WTF? It was so easy before, and now I am so lost.  ???

I understand nothing.  :P

Yes in the readme it states that the roms are matching Mame 0.87u5 (currently unreleased). It also appears that it is using a different bios rom for some games.

I copied my strider2 zip from mame to zinc, and it moaned about the bios rom - got a newer one of those and it works perfectly. It plays absolutely *perfectly* and looks stunning (but hey - I'm a strider fan...)

Superb release!

I got hold of a RomCenter DAT (posted on the Zinc forum) for Zinc 1.0 and converted it to ClrMame. Here's both of them

Whuhohaha! Tekken2 with perfect graphics and sound!
This might finally give me an excuse to build a Windows based cabinet!

Thanks for the release Howard.... Very nice work...  I have a couple questions if someone could answer for me..

1.  Do the old Roms for Zinc work with new Zinc..?

      A.  If they dont work do I need to use my Mame Roms and Bios for it?

2.  Does player two button 6 work now..?

3.  Do the old frontends work with it?(I would think not but just asking)

4.  Does anybody have a list of the NEW/Complete Rom list that can play on Zinc now?(I didnt see any at EMUHYPE.COM

Thanks

No, I tried using the Zinc 0.90 roms and couldn't get anything working.
Yes, you can use the current Mame roms- if you want you can use the ClrMame dat file that I posted above to verify your Zinc roms.

Yes, I've attached the list-games output to this post (you can get this by tying zinc --game-list at the command line.

I used Joymonkey's ClrMAME Zinc.dat and renamed a bunch of my ROMs, but some games --notably Rival Schools and Street Fighter EX 2 Plus-- still don't work. If they worked before with v0.9, and they've been re-named properly, what might the problem be?

i havent been able to get my keybinds to work with the latest zinc and aldo combination.
i can use the arrow keys to achieve character and menu movement, but none of the other buttons work,no matter what i bind them to..
its very frustrating
