Screenshots in ArcadeOS
« on: October 23, 2004, 05:05:07 am »
Can someone help me with a screenshot problem I'm having - namely, I can't figure out how to get my screenshots to show up on the game select screen.  Where do I store the files, how do I get ArcadeOS to find them, etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To take a screen shot simply press F12 during the game at anytime. Mame (I guess it is mame you are using..?) will store a screen shot in the "snap" folder in your MAME folder.

To get them to show up in arcadeOS can be a little harder.
The pics NEED to be in 256 colours (colors) or acardeOS wont show them, I like to have the screen shots on display and have found that I have to load them into a paint package ( I use Paintshop pro 4, it was free on a cover CD) and decrease the colour depth to 256 or less.

Do these 256 color files stay in the same mame/snap folder?  How do I get ArcadeOS to look there?

The documentation that comes with arcadeOS can explain better than me, so I would take a look through that after reading this...

arcadeOS looks in this folder by defalt, as long as the folder is

C:\mame\snaps

If you have your MAME folder elsewhere you need to tell arcadeOS by editing the arcadeOS.cfg file (explained in the above mentioned docs.)

After opening the .png picture files using a paint package and decresing the number of colours to 256 (8 bit) just hit the save button/icon and the 256 colour file will replace the original file.
Then arcadeOS should display the picture/snapshot.

Good luck.

Thank you very much.  I'll give that a try.
