How to Compile NoName Mame?
« on: October 19, 2004, 03:06:34 pm »
Ive tried to follow the extemely dated instrutions found here

http://www.mame.net/compilewin.html

but filenames, paths, everything is different now...
plus,to add isult to injury im running XP-home-sp2,and that tutorial is tailored for 98,98se.

could someone be humble enough to lay out a similar, simple walkthrough so that i can learn how to compile my own binaries without having to beg someone to do it for me..
teach a man to fish....you know..
i know my way around a dos prompt, and im not technically challenged, im just uninformed...
in turn, ill return the favor and pass it on to the next person i see in my perdicament..

Thank you all

Here you go.  One thing, though.  If nothing happens when you do Step 10, try typing:

c:\mingw\bin\make

Already answered this at my forums, but I'll post it again in case you look here first:

I have a much easier solution, get the MinGW package from my SourceForge page and extract it (well, and set the paths). That is the same exact setup I use for compiling under XPhome-sp1. I promise I'll write up a guide when I have time. Of course, I wouldn't have to work as many hours if people would donate. ::)

Extract it to C:\MinGW and add C:\MinGW\BIN to your PATHs.

ok ive extracted minGW to a folder called MinGW in c:/.
but im confused as to what you mean by add to your paths?

and in contradiction to wizards post, there is no install.exe correct for minGW..im just unzipping it to a folder right?

and where does the extracted nonamemame source zip folder go?

im sure its all super simple and crystal clear to you, but to me i have no idea what your referring to..

also there is no command called make in either of folders or their structure....

Ok i got it to compile...
i got a couple warnings at the begining and end ,something about pointers at the begining and  unstable beta version at the end...but other than that it went smooth.
i used half of gates and half of wizards instructions and ended up with:

nonamep4.exe
romcp.exe
chdman.exe
xml2info.exe

ill try it when i get home, i have no games here at work to test it with..

Out of curiosity, what features from NoName are you looking to use?

P4 , NOT mame32, and first and foremost its ability to force 60hz mode on ALL roms..
im having problems with getting my games to display correctly on my cab with standard mame
the arcadeVGA res tool ,whihc for most likely operator error reasons doesnt seem to be forcing the correct video modes.
so instead of going thru 5000 or so rom config files, i was told noname would force 60hz across the board and save me the trouble.
