question using playstation pad hacks
« on: October 19, 2004, 05:44:16 am »
i obtained one of gnateye's psx pad hacks (the dual version) found here: http://www.cosmicbreaks.com/images/arcade_stick/padhack/

so far ive had quite a bit of trouble getting the controls to respond after wiring the barrier strips to arcade controls and while waiting for gnateye to respond to my PMs, i thought i'd ask you guys for some help.

first off for those who have experience with pad hacks in general, id like to know if its possible to daisy chain the ground wire to all the inputs for both players at the same time, or if i have to seperate the ground for player 1 inputs and player 2 inputs.  ive actually tried both methods with no luck  ???

also, i have experience wiring an i-pac4 together with no problems.  the i-pac is not picky at all about the type of wires that i use (i can mix and match tin and copper wire) but im wondering if the playstation pads require use of certain wire to function properly.

if theres any other suggestions about what else could possibly cause the pads to not function with the arcade controls, i'd love to hear your thoughts.  any help is appreciated  :)

Using the same ground for both player pads shouldn't be a problem.  Could it be that the game you are testing it with has a problem with digital controls? There are known PS2 games (like SSX2) that will not work (even the menus!) if you don't have analog controls enabled.   Yeah this sux for PSX pad hacks.

Try another game.  Also test the hacked pads independantly from the cab, by jumpering a single wire from ground to one of the buttons to see if they are working.
