wip - this space for rent (w/pics)
« on: October 18, 2004, 07:21:39 pm »
so i've been mostly lurking on the boards while working on my first cab.  this one was built rather quickly to get my feet wet and will most likely stay with my roomate when i eventually move out (giving me an excuse to build another cab).  i've enjoyed looking at everyone else's cab so i figured i should post some of mine (even though i'm not doing anything special).  the cab is playable but i've still got a lot of stuff to finish up.  the name (this space for rent) is a running joke so it's always been the working title for the machine.

- finish off bezzle and get tinted glass/plexi/lexan
- get t-molding (debating red for pop or black leather for a sleaker look)
- touch up paint on marquee retainer/carriage bolts/etc
- get side art (roomate is supposedly working on this since she's the one who wants a flame theme)
- design/outsource a marquee to replace the temp one i printed up on several sheets of paper
- other stuff as i think of it

it started out as a 10 yard fight i picked up for 50 bucks.  it has some water damage at the bottom and along the edges but i was able to sand most of that off.

Wow - nice job!  The metal CP is cool looking and I love the marquee.  What front end are you using?  The only one I've tried is Game Launcher because of it's simple look but I can't get it to select any of my games so I will have to try something else...  the one you show looks pretty clean...

Are you still debating what color t-molding to use? I'd recommend RED. Black will just make the whole cab lose its shape. Know what I mean? Red will really define the shape of it (you've got that nice curve on the side) and it will match the marquee and controls.

Oh yeah, red is your color. In fact...

...red t-molding and a flame CPO with the red sticks and buttons and the sweet flame FE skin would tie that whole cab together PERFECTLY!!

I'm so sad the theme of my cab is "Used to be a Pole Position."  :P

gunstar hero - if you pay me enough i'll shill for anything.  where do you want your logo?  the marquee, the side, my back like those boxers do?
 ;D

javeryh - i'm using mamewah 1.5.  it's pretty easy to set up using ini files.  to make the skin i just sized a jpeg to my screen resolution and took out everything but the emulator name, game list, screenshots, and the joystick type.  if you need help there's lots of info in the software section or you can ask me and i'll try to help (not sure what good i'll be since i tried to keep mine as simple as possible)

it figures everyone would vote for red t-molding.  i actually went ahead and ordered the black leather since the texture matches the hammered finish on the cp and coin door (can't really see it in the pics).  i wanted dark grey but apparently nobody makes that.  once i get the flames for the side i can always change it to red since t-molding isn't that expensive.

thanks everyone for your kind words

Great looking cab!

I'm really curious to see the side art, as I have been planning a flame themed cabinet for a long while now... I just haven't started physically making it yet  ::)

I have red, orange, and yellow buttons, red joysticks, and planned on making a black cab. I also want a flame CPO of some sort but haven't been able to find a suitable image to use, nor do I know how to make decent flames in Photoshop. I like the idea of red t-molding on the cab, and may borrow that idea for mine when I get to that stage.

Anyway, like I said, I like your cab, and look forward to seeing how it all comes out in the end!
