How to put video into internet?
« on: October 18, 2004, 08:14:57 am »
Hi,
I have an analogue camcorder with an s-video out socket. I want to know what equipment I need to be able to connect it to my Windows PC.
I want to use it to put some old video footage on the internet. Would like to save it as a .mov filetype or similiar that is suitable for the internet

Thanks for your help

Hello Tom,

You need a video capture card or TV tuner card (most tuners have an S-Video input and are dirt cheap).
If you don't want to spend much money, pick up a cheapo TV tuner - here's one on sale for $10 that has S-Video.

If you're looking for something of better quality, try something with a built-in hardware encoder- like this Hauppauge 250 card.

Or if you're a bit more hard-core, this one:
http://www.canopus-aust.com/AU/products/ADVC110/pm_advc110.asp

Can be used with any cheapo Firewire card, it's 2-way and requires no drivers.

Bad thing, the price.
But why worry, we're all millionares here aren't we?  :)
Now in a tasty new flavour.

There's a lot of information about video capture, etc. also available at:

Although I'm not too crazy about they re-did their website, it's still pretty good.

Adobe Premiere 6 and up can save in RealPlayer format.

Also isnt' there a free program from Micro$oft to makWindows media files? I think it's called Windows media creator or something.
