Mamewah Question
« on: October 15, 2004, 06:13:03 pm »
I am just finishing up building my cabinet, and I have one little problem,  I can't get MameWah to work.  I pretty much just have one problem and 2 questions.

Problem: I have made a list in Mamewah with all of my roms showing up, but I go to run a game, and I see the dosbox pop up, a few words fly by, and the box closes.  Nothing happens.  I am very alarmed.

Question 1: Is Mamewah the only/best option?  Is it possible to just use Mame32 with 6 buttons and a joystick?

Question 2: Can I configure Mamewah to emulate scanlines/RGB emulation?

Thanks so much.

Check mamewah.log.  Are there any error messages?

If not, examine the command line it's executing when trying to run your game.  Run it from a DOS prompt.  Does it work?

If not, then it won't work under Mameway either.  Figure out what's wrong and review your Mamewah settings to correct it.

Regarding scanlines... do you mean scanlines while playing the game, or in mamewah itself?  If in the game, then that's a function of the emulator rather than Mamewah.

Answer 1:  MAMEWAH is not the only option, but is probably the best (of course, that's my opinion.)  GameLauncher is also another great frontend, which I'm currently using on a bartop.

Answer 2:  MAMEWAH doesn't do scanlines and such effects.  That's gonna be done through the mame.ini file.

As for your problem, does it just kick you back to MAMEWAH after the DOS box appears or does it just hang?  See if your EMU1.CFG file matches the following (change the Emulator Executable if necessary to match your directory):

;EXECUTION SETTINGS
Emulator Executable = C:\MAME\MAME.EXE
Send ROM Path = False
Send ROM Extension = False
Use Long Filenames = False
Use Quotes around ROM Filenames = False
Show DOS Box = 0
