Keyboard Keys appear redefined
« on: October 14, 2004, 04:03:23 pm »
Having a great time experimenting with Mamewah, MAME and other emulators in preperation for cabinet build - thanks for some great programs.

Problem I am having is that frequently when exiting a program, the keyboard appear to be redifined. If I open up a text file to edit, keys don't work properly some work, others do funcions like close windows or copy.

An example is if I run Mamewah, launch Fusion and rom, and then exit everything, this happens. Another example is if I run Mamewah and launch MAME with Space invaders, when I return to MAmewah scrolling through MAME roms has a mind of its own back to the begging of the list, and I can move forward. (Space Invaders also seems tempermental with the keys)

I don't know if this is an emualtor issue or Mamewah. I am certainly not aware of re-asigning any keys in either.

Could anyone advise why I may see this, and how to fix without a reboot

Thanks

Minwah

Do you mean even keys on your actual keyboard?  If so, that's pretty wierd...  I didn't know keyboards had 'close windows' or 'copy' keys - is it some multimedia keyboard or something?

Are you using the latest MW?  I remember some of the really old versions (pre v0.95) sometimes developed a mind of their own...

I do mean the keys on my keyboard (stand Microsoft keyboard). It is odd. I believe it is MAME that causes the issue as I also get it after running directly from MAME32. Specifically, if I opened up notepad to edit an ini file after runnig MAME, pressing something like B may work, but W would close the window instead of showing the letter W or maybe just not show any letter(can't remeber specific responses per key), making it impossible to edit until I rebooted. No other programs outside of the emultor setup cause the issue. I have only tried a handful of MAME games, but frogger and space invaders repeatedly cause the issue (I am currently testing software setup from the keyboard and not a seperate joystick/button setup)
