mamewah1.5 won't play certain mp3s
« on: October 12, 2004, 04:39:49 pm »
my roomate complained the other day that she couldn't find the song she wanted to hear while scrolling through games.  i finally got around to checking it out and it turns out that several of the mp3s won't play.  to test i removed all of the working songs from the folder and i end up with no music.  i ripped all of the songs myself so it shouldn't be a consistency issue.  i don't mind re-ripping the songs but was curious if anybody has had a similar problem or have any ideas what might be causing this.

thanks

Did you notice anything similar between the songs not showing up?  Possibly a weird labeling scheme, perhaps each is abnormally long and could have too large a file size.  Just some things popping in my head.

Do the MP3's play OK in Media Player?

I don't think this is the problem but also check your DirectX version is 8 or above.

i updated direct x when i put mame and mamewah on the computer.  it shouldn't be that because some of the songs play.

i double checked in windows media player and they all play but i noticed something interesting.  the tracks that won't play in mamewah show up as track 10 or track 2 while the ones that work all have an actual name.  i guess this has something to do with the id3 tags but don't know why it would cause a problem in mamewah.  could this be it and if so, how do i change them?  do i need special software?

thanks

Just use Winamp to change your tags.  Highlight the song on your list and hit Alt + 3.

changing the tags did it.

for the record it seemed like they needed the id3 v1 tag (a couple of the songs that didn't work originally had v2 tags).  i didn't actually test this since i just put the information in both.

thanks for the help

Interesting...I didn't realise that made a difference, since I don't actually use the tags.  Must be an issue with DirectShow.  Thanks for reporting, I'll add that to the docs somewhere...
