Slightly different bootup question
« on: October 12, 2004, 12:39:42 pm »
Currently in my cab, it starts windows 98, then automatically boots up the keywiz software.  Keywiz then loads the commands (Via pink laser beams of death), then Keywiz automatically boots up my front-end...which is an old version of Mamewah.

Is there anyway to boot directly into the keywiz software and avoid the windows gui altogether.  Then still continue using the keywiz software to open mamewah after the loading sequence?

I tried setting gui=0 in msdos.sys and thensetting the autoexec to load the keywiz software (and appropriete command line switches).  It boots directly to dosprompt but never executes the keywiz software.

Any ideas?

Is the keywiz software GUI-based?

It appears so.

Hi Mike,

Sorry. I'm afraid not.  The KeyWiz software requires the windows gui to function.  But don't feel bad, even commercial kiosks show the wonderful GUI screen at boot time.  The only real way around this is a hardware device to monitor the boot progress and blank the screen until the boot sequence has completed.

You could try the following...

<WINDIR>\System.ini

[boot]
Shell=keywiz.exe

Make sure the exe name is right.  Include the path if the executable is not in a PATHed directory.
