VGA to RGB
« on: October 07, 2004, 09:43:48 am »
HI,
I have a 50Inch Rear projection monitor, and i want to plug it up to my computers graphics card. I have checked the spec of the monitor , and it is 50/60hz . My graphics card gives out a 60 to 110hz. I have also got a Striped VGA cable, and a striped RGB cable, if i solder the ends of these two cables to the same colours , i am presumiung it will work. The colours on the VGA cable are RED BLUE BLACK WHITE AND GREY ( and a adtional yellow? ) i am also presuming that the GREY cable is the Green cable because on this vga cable there is three chunky cables ( Red/Blue/Grey ) and just the standard sized other wires. My question is........Will it work if i solder these ends on! . :D and will it blow my monitor up if it goes wrong? :'(  , by the way, please note that this monitor is a 50/60hz not a bog stardard arcade monitor of 15hz, and the graphics card is a Nvida Riva TNT2 pro 32mb card. not only that by i also have a program that changes the output HZ from the graphics card to the monitor!. please reply soon!!!

I think you might be a little confused.  When you see a Hz range this is the vertical sync range.  Yes, a vga signal can be at 60Hz.  Most arcade monitors have the Horizontal sync of 15Khz.  This is where you have trouble with the normal output of a video card which is usually 30Khz at the lowest.  If you can get your video card to put out a 15Khz signal and you hook up everything correctly, then it should work****of course I have no idea it that means getting it into a sync on green format or what, but hopefully this helps a little.

ok,

If 60hz is Vertical,
I take it 50hz is horizontal,
By the way, which is vertical or horizontal , White or black cable?

the 50/60Hz is likely the range for the Vertical sync...it can sync anywhere between 50 and 60Hz.  I don't know about the wire colors.
