Mortal Kombat: Deception
« on: October 06, 2004, 10:04:19 am »
anyone got this game yet? I just picked it up yesterday and its awesome! its soul caliber type fighting, with full 3d environments, but with all the coolness of MKs over the top blood/gore. each character has 3 different fighting stances and everyone has a weapon they can pull out, Sub-Zero with a ice sword is just crazy. besides the awesome side modes such as, Puzzle Fighter Mode, Chess Kombat, and the 1 player adventure mode.

so yeah anyone have this game wanna play me online? the online fighting has 0 lag i played it all last night =)  if you see Evil-D on there, thats me

How similar is this game to deadly alliance?  Sounds quite close from what I've seen.  Is Liu Kang still dead in this one?

It's very similar.  They removed the ability to impale and added a bunch of uppercut moves, from what I've heard.  I'm probably going to pick it up this week, since Target has a $10 coupon online and is offering a $10 gift card with purchase, which brings it to $30.

Did you get one of the premium editions?

You say soul calibur style fighting... Deadly aliance had a little clunkier controls than soul calibur.  Is Deception smoother?   I want this game I'm just wondering if you played the first one how the controls compare.

aawww man, I liked the impale feature.  It was especially funny when the person impaled ended up winning the match.  Then they stand there in their winning pose with a sword stuck in them and blood squirting out.

i got the subzero premium edition for 60$ at walmart. it comes with a perfect arcade port of MK 1 , which is pretty cool. also comes with some little tin card with subzeros stats on it. basicly if you want MK1 its 10$ more, i thought it would be cool to have.

i used soul cal as a example because of the 3d fighting system. it doesnt flow like SC does because SC is more of a fast paced game MK:D seems to be more toward technical fighting and quick 5-8 hit combos. the online play is what does it for me, its just so cool hooking up with people online for some matches. has online ranking and everything, also can do puzzle/chess mode online.

Cool.  Thanks for the further review.  I'll probably get it sometime soon.  I just have to decide whether to get this or Gradius V first. Decisions, Decisions, :P

I picked it up for XBox.  Its alright.  Very similar to Deadly Alliance.  Once again, I feel the need to use an arcade stick to get the most out of it.

This is totally off the topic but the review reminded me of something.

There used to be a chess game on NES that is similar to the Chess Kombat mode, where when you landed on a character you could fight them for the space...

Anyone remember the name of this game?

In the 386 computer days there was a game called "Battle Chess" where pieces would show a fight scene when you took your opponents piece.

It was cool because the rook would turn into a giant rock monster. When you captured the queen he'd turn her upside down and eat her. You would always see her underwear. We played the game just for that animation.

Very much like Deadly Alliance, with better graphics and stage fatalities galore.

And apparently Liu Kang is back from the dead and unlockable. Thank god. The intro to Deadly Alliance had me on my feet hollering "WTF?!?" at the XBOX.

Deception has the coolest fighting game intro I've seen in some time. The MK creators are really going all out and giving the MK series the most cohesive storyline in all of fighting games.

Now bring on DOA Ultimate.  8)

yeah that CG opening was definately insane and probably the best CG ive seen in a game yet. The way Raiden moves with his clothes hanging and swaying when he moves was crazy.

has anyone found out a way to unlock chars besides in konquest? i think its pretty dumb you cant just get coins to unlock them, all the graves they are in just have locks on them and you cant buy them. i have a gameshark but my PS2 doesnt like the blue PS2 discs that much and it kept not taking the CD... gay
