« on: October 04, 2004, 07:50:18 pm »
Well it took 14 months (mostly due to lack of fund$), but it's finally (mostly) done.
Still to do: wire up new speakers and amp, add n64 controller ports, light the trackball, and clean up some of the wiring.

Overview
Done in 3/4" MDF, 2 coats primer, 2 coats latex 'one coat' type paint.

Monitor
Screen is a 27" Zenith, using s-vid from a BBATI Radeon 8500 64mb.

Coin Door
Ebay

Marquee
Printed by ClassicArcadeGrafix, sandwiched in a 'U' shaped piece of 1/8" acrylic. Acrylic mounted with 2 pieces of velcro

Speaker Holes
Drilling pattern came from a PC's fan grill.

Controls
Trackball is a Crayola Kidsball (ebay) with a 3" translucent blue ball, spinner is an oscar controls Vortex with a 2-tone slikstick knob. Joysticks are T-Stik pluses, buttons are Happ horizontal. The five buttons along the top are (from left to right) power, player 1, player 2, pause, and escape (all with nanuu's button labels).
CPO printed on indoor vinyl at kinkos.

Control panel overlay detail:

Dance Pad
Cobalt Flux pad (bought used locally) with custom artwork, connected via parallel port/homemade adapter.

Software:
Frontend: Mamewah
Emulators: NES (FCEU), SNES (ZSNES), N64 (Project 64), Mame .86 (Custom build).
Other: Stepmania, Hamsterball, Neverball, Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project, Armagetron

Asus mobo, 256mb PC 2100, 40gb & 20gb drives. AMD 1700+, CD drive... That's about it.

Mamewah Skins

Obligatory WIP pictures

Well done mate.  That looks very neat and tidy.  Looks like you put a lot of effort into setting up mamewah correctly which looks excellent.  Tried to see how you mounted the trackball (I have the same one) and couldn't find any - can you post some pics of thr mounting?

Cheers

It mounts with the trackball's original screw points. The top half of the case was removed, and hollow nylon spacers (could have been sections of bic pen instead) were added so that the height the ball sits the same height above the acrylic as it did in its case. The hole in the MDF is a bit over 3", and the hole in the acrylic is a bit smaller (same size as the top of the original trackball casing hole), and beveled on the back (towards the MDF) with a router. I'll try to get some pictures up, though.

I had planned to but as they are, I don't think they'll do much good.
All of the console screenshots have been altered (as have the movie screenshots) so that they'll fit into the background layout.
Here's an example:
before

after

movie

And the favorites icons across the top include 3 of my family members (favorites lists), as well as the gametypes that were important to me. The cabinet shown in the mame layout is mine (I don't think people would want that either).

And lastly, I can't provide the background image at all.

Not really sure what all is left that could be useful to other people :)
