WG25K7191: Std or Med Res?
« on: October 04, 2004, 10:16:13 am »
I have a Wells Garner 25K7191 monitor which was pulled from an Atari Steel Talons game. According to what I've read on the web, this is a std res monitor. However, according to KLOV, this is a med res game.

So, is the monitor a std or med res monitor?

If it's std res, does Steel Talons have a setting to choose either monitor type to be used?

Thanks.

I don't know about the Steel Talons game because I've never seen one, but the Wells-Gardner 25K7191 is definitely a standard (CGA) resolution monitor. Remember that there are errors in the KLOV databse.

Thanks. That's the main info I needed.

I can let you know when I end up getting mine working in a friend's new mame cab (which is still under construction, so I have no ETA).

the WG25k7191 is probably the most common monitor used.  Is it the best, maybe not, but is it the best for old school MAME games, YES!!  :-)

It's only CGA, so there is that limitation, but you'll be quite happy with your WG25k7191 :-)

I have two of them and I'm quite happy with them both, even with the slight problems I'm having with one of them due to a previous owners boo-boos :-(

I think that's true with any adapter.   MameWah has a nice arcade VGA resolution program that will set the resolutions for almost all the games automatically for you.  I recommend it's use.

AVGA card has a zillion resolutions to choose from.  If you're not getting vhold with the native resolution of the game, set it to the next closest resolution that AVGA supports and you'll be all set.  Works like a charm and you'll never be able to tell the difference!
