Help - MameWah and controllers & Skins
« on: October 02, 2004, 09:46:14 am »
Can someone advise how to set up controllers in MameWah (1.5).

In particular, how to configure an Act-Lab lightgun, and how to set up an analogue wheel or joypad.

Then, how do I associate a controller with a game such as Outrun with wheel, PointBlank with Lightgun, etc.

I have succesfully used Catver.ini to filter lists which presumeably is a step in the right direction

(I,m new to MameWah so appologies if dumb Question).

I'm also having problems setting  up different skins such as those from http://www.screenshotarchive.com/skins.htm.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

You cannot use the Act-Labs gun in MAMEWAH, since it only tracks the guns position when firing the trigger - otherwise it could be treated as a mouse.

For PC joystick devices, edit \mamewah\ctrlr\default.ini, and use the strings described in \mamewah\docs\ctrlr.txt for whichever events you want to change.

Use \mame\mame.ini, and/or game-specific ini files.  See www.mameworld.net/easyemu

Many are out of date, but just need files renaming - read \mamewah\docs\layouts.txt for a full explanation.

Many thanks for the reply I will follow up with the info in the website.

Regarding the lightgun, does this mean that I can't launch a game to run with the lightgun, or just that I can't use a lightgun with the frontend itself. I am not sure I worded the question very well. I am hoping to be able to lauch a game such as PointBlank to work with the light gun (in the same way that I can with Mame32 if I tick the lightgun setting on the controller menu options in gam properties)

Ah OK yes you can use the gun in-game, setup similarly to the mouse and other controls.  I meant you cannot navigate the games list with the gun, although you could launch a game with the trigger if you wanted (MOUSE_BUTTON0 in the ctrlr file).
