When using S video, TV, Screen shakes horribly, NEED HELP
« on: September 29, 2004, 07:47:15 pm »
I recently got my computer to show video on a pc monitor, its a newly built computer. My video card has s video out, which i have hooked up to a new 27 inch tv with S video. I tested it out today and you can tell its the computer image on my screen, it displays the "Syntax" motherboard boot screen, but when displayed on the tv the screen it  shakes and moves horribly making it so you can barely make out whats on the screen. You can tell it says the "Syntax" but it seems the pixels are shaking and flying everywhere, just seeing if anyone knows how to fx this, please help, thanks.

Nobody has any ideas how to fix this or had this problem before? It seems like something easy for someone that knows a thing or two about arcade machines using tv's, but i dont!  please help!

My ArcadeVGA is doing the same thing. Hence, it will not display any resolutions below 640x480 on a TV. I have tested this. So for me, windows works fine, but BIOS, Boot, and DOS screens are unreadable.

What video card are you using?

You probably have the resolution set too high.  Plug in a monitor, set your screen resolution to 640x480, then plug the TV back in and see if that fixes your problem.

Windows will display properly. Anything under 640x480 will not display properly on the TV Out, including BIOS, Boot, or DOS screens. I was forced to install a regular video card, install windows, then install the ArcadeVGA, and set it up on the TV.

He's right, and it really depends on the video card.  My old ATI RAGE 3D PRO showed the BIOS and boot sequence just fine.  It was great having a custom boot picture in place of the Windows 98 SE splash screen.

But...16 MB PCI video card just couldn't cut the mustard anymore.  Put a Radeon 9000 in the same computer w/ the same TV and now the BIOS and boot screens "roll".  However, once it gets into Windows 640X480 it works fine.  Annoying and unprofessional to say the least, but it works on the important part.

I never worry about it since the PC in my mame cab is always on. In fact, when not in use I usually just leave a random game running on demo.

If you are running a tv why did you waste time and money buying a arcadevga? That card is for running Arcade monitors or a scart tv in rgb mode.

You should but a standard video card with tv out.

btw, why are you swapping resolutions?

Just use HWStretching and force a resolution your TV runs well in.

Also, you will probably want to get a resolution as close to real physical resolutions and hwstretch... look at results.... Then try at 1024x768 and hwstretching... See what looks better.
