ZINC Button Mapping - HELP!!
« on: September 29, 2004, 11:48:30 am »
I'm trying to use ZINC with my cab but I can't figure out how to map the buttons to use the same ones as MAME. I tried using a ZINC GUI and it seemed to let me change them, but then when I started a game the LEFT CTRL made it freeze.  :(

I know a lot of people use ZINC with their cabs so their must be a way to match the buttons to MAME but I can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Use the other graphics renderer - the one you are using has problems with the MAME keys.

Or better yet...

Don't use standard mame keys.  Other emulators have problems (1) and you can't use a keyboard all that easy.

I use Z - V and A - D myself.   Remapping is pretty darn easy and you have less problems with other emulators.

I don't know if I like the idea of remapping all my other emulators just to fit with ZINC.

For some reason the ZINC GUI I'm using is now having major problems. The line it's using to tell ZINC to look for a specific controller file is coming up invalid, but it's the same command listed in ZINC's readme file.

Anyone who uses in ZINC in their cab with the standard MAME keys--help! ???

once again guys.... way to fail to give the correct answer ;)

in your gui or whatever you are configuring zinc with make sure "use renderer keys" is unchecked.  Poof, problem solved.  :)

Maybe I need a better GUI. I'm using "dafreak's ZINC GUI" and it doesnt have a "use renderer keys" option. Are there any other ZINC GUIs anyone uses out there that allow me to change what buttons ZINC uses? Hell, if someone could tell me how to do that without a GUI that would be fine, too.

EDIT: Okay, for some reason I was using version 0.5 which I don't even remember downloading. So I installed 0.9 and now it loads--If I choose OpenGL renderer it works and I can use the MAME keys, but it makes all the graphics screwy and disappear! Tetris and Rival Schools are unplayable! I can't use GLIDE because i don't have a 3dfx card.

So if I can somehow uncheck "use renderer keys" like Howard said or whatever for D3D, that might be the best option. Any ideas?

funny.... i use dafreaks gui and it's right on there.  Perhaps you need to actually look in the render config.  :P

The problem has nothing to do with remaping keys, it has to do with disabling the debug keys in the renderer, which just happen to overlap with mame defaults.

I disagree - my answer was correct, just different to yours.  I don't use ZiNc anymore, but when I did I don't remember even seeing 'use renderer keys'.  I used Aldo's FE.

Sorry Howard. I gave about as thorough a search of DaFreak's GUI as possible and could find neither hide nor hair of any use renderer keys option. Maybe we're using different versions? I also looked in the renderer cfg files in ZINCs main directory but couldn't get anything from that either.

Meanwhile, I had never heard of Aldo or his GUI before, but a quick search led to me downloading and trying it out and SUCCESS! Thanks Minwah, I can finally play Rival Schools.  ;D

On dafreaks GUI you need to click the "show renderer config" button, then you get a bunch more options. It's super cool (TM)!!

Which I mentioned and the newbie didn't listen to.  ;)

Aldo's fe disables renderer keys by default, so there you go.

Again minwah... it's the incorrect answer as you badly suggested that he change renderer when ALL of the renderers are written by the same guy and have similar debug keys.  Actually I take that back... one of the ooooold renderers didn't have debug keys (can't remember which, my memory isn't that good), but nobody should use that one anymore as it has rendering errors.

I don't call people on being wrong unless they really are.  :)

Okay, I wanted to let this go, but now I'm getting a little pissed. Let me say again, IT DOESN'T HAVE THAT OPTION UNDER SHOW RENDERER CONFIG. MAYBE WE ARE USING DIFFERENT VERSIONS.

Under D3D and OpenGL, it has Show FPS, Frame Skip, Detection, Frame Limit, Frame Rate, Texture Filtering, Texture Caching, Texture Quality, Window or Full Screen, Resolution, Dithering, Desktop Color, Blending, and Scanlines. Under Glide it has Resolution, Filtering, Show FPS, Frame Limitation, Frame Skipping, Framerate Detection, and Manual Framerate.

THAT'S IT. THAT'S ALL IT HAS. MINWAH FIXED MY PROBLEM BY TELLING ME ABOUT ALDO'S FE. LET'S DROP IT.

Christ.
