Which is better: satellite or cable?
« on: September 24, 2004, 04:32:50 pm »
I'm moving into a new house and need tv. I've always had cable, but was considering satellite. Specifically, I think I like DirecTV more than Dish Network.

Can anyone speak about the good/bad of satellite tv? Can anybody make a recommendation? I know that satellite gives you more channels for the money, but I'm concerned with signal problems. Anybody got any advice?

I like cable myself. Although, Direct TV sounds nice. You can get a dual tuner DVR from them. I like cable because I have high speed internet from them and digital cable and telephone. I get a price break for having all of those together. Kinda nice. I think for the most part though, they are all pretty much the same. The all digital channels are the only thing I wish I had on cable that I can think of. To each his own I guess.

I have satellite & cable.  Satellite, on 2 TV's (The main view TVs') and Cable on the other 2.  This way I didn't have to pay for 2 more recievers.

Channel selection:  More on Satellite, but you pay all the good channels

Signal, never had a problem.

Well right now I can get up to 4 receivers free with new actiation through DirecTV. Pay an extra $50 and I can upgrade one of those to a Tivo box. Plus free installtion, it's hard to argue with except for the fact that I know cable is so worry-free and cable internet is very dependable. If I get satellite tv I'll have to get DSL, which I've have bad results with in the past.

not sure about your area, but you can still get/use cable for internet even if you don't use their service for TV.  My B-I-L is set up like that - cable for 'net, sat for TV

NEVER a reception problem, but if it snows in your area, make sure you can clean off the dish, that's the only problem he's had....oh, and line of site....make sure you can get it.  Find out where you have to point to - call 'em up, they'll tell you how to determine that - buddy can only get sat in winter when leaves fall, but that's beautiful for him, he only uses sat for the NFL Ticket!

Satelite gives a nicer picture than digital cable as long as you're using S-video, just in case it matters to you.

I have both sat and cable as well.  I have internet on cable so it's a little cheaper if I have both. I also keep my cable for when the sat goes down from weather. That doesn't happen too often though, usually only when there is extremely bad weather. My preference is for satelite though, the picture seems better.

DirecTV, dual tuner TIVO, plus they were the only ones to carry the "Ultimate Fighting Championship" during it's banned from cable days.

I will never switch to anyone else. There is absoluetly nothing better than dual tuner TIVO. If TIVO was a hot girl I would have sex with her.

If *ANYTHING* was a hot girl, wouldn't you have sex with her?
