Problem: Screen shimmering with component adapter
« on: September 21, 2004, 09:58:37 am »
I am using the ati component dongle with the ati 8500 64mb, outputting to a toshiba 27a34 and there is a very noticeable screen shimmer.   Has anyone else had this problem and is there any solution for this?

A little off topic here, but I've seen many things about screen shimmering.  I'm still at a loss to what it really is.  Can you explain?

It's kind of hard to explain.  The picture isn't steady. All throughout the picture the brightness seems to fluctuate but the fluctuation of brightness isn't uniform throughout the screen.
Sort of like when sunlight reflects off of water, it shimmers.  That's about the best I can explaine it.

I hope you aren't more confused than you were before. :-\

No.  The water analogy was good.  Thanks.

In cable thats what we call a shimmer.  It usually fixed by trimming up the center conductor, which in turn stops ingress into the line.  However since you are using a dongle......

I have yet to see this dongle, but did you have to add extra cables to it to make it long enough to reach your TV?  If so then you may have a lose connection somewhere thats allowing other signals to interfere causing this effect.  If Not then I would suggest making sure that the component input is nice and tight on the back of that TV.  Some component cables will go on and feel tight, but they aren't all the way down onto the input.  They have tp POP on sometimes.

Try that and see what happens.
