Betson Imperial Multisync
« on: September 14, 2004, 09:24:56 am »
Last night I received my Betson Imperial multisync monitor. I tried it out using my current video card, radeon 9200, on some of the games the screen would flash something about the horozontal and vertical sync rates.  Is this an out of range problem and will the arcadevga resolve this issue when is arrives?  I'm hoping it just that the card cannot handle some of the resolutions and the problem is not the monitor.

i seriously doubt its the monitor.
i think your card is simply not up to the task of issuing those resolutions.
i think an arcadevga will fix your problems nicely.
the Betson is designed to function properly within most if not all the resolution/refresh rates required by mame.

I agree with OP that your videocard most likely cannot output the resolution you want. Did you use AdvanceMAME? The compatibility list for AdvanceMAME shows it supports many Radeon 9200 based cards.

Using an ArcadeVGA might help you for 15kHz games, but be advised that the ArcadeVGA will limit you to 15kHz if you don't use AdvanceMAME. AdvanceMAME can also output at 25kHz which your Betson monitor is capable of handling.

The Out of Range errors are usually caused by the video card trying to jump to a resolution/refresh rate combination that the monitor doesn't like.

Since the Betson, like the D9200, is an arcade monitor, it does not report its "operating limits" to Windows like most monitors do. This means that Windows has no idea what resolutions/refresh rates it can support.

A great tool for this: RefreshForce

Run RefreshForce, force all resolutions on your Betson to <60hz refresh rate, and delete all resolutions above 800x600. It should get rid of your out of range errors.

Try running at 800x600 or lower at 60hz.
