Mamewah Newbie ?
« on: September 10, 2004, 02:17:52 pm »
OK i got everything setup the way i want it on mamewah 1.5 There are only two things i cant figure out. I have tried reading the doc files but either can't find the answer there or i'm just not getting it.

1: I can't seem to get my snaps to show up. My snap shots are in C:mame\snaps , So that is what i type in the ini. file under the art sections. C:mame\snap . But when i start up mame i don't see anything just a black box.

2: Where are the options for flitering? I want to filter out clones and non working roms and ect?

Thanks everyone.

1) Try c:\mame\snap (you missed a '\').

2) The filtering options are in Games List Options > Generate Filtered List.  BUT you must select a list other than the main one (mame-0.ini refers to the main list, mame-1.ini is for the first custom list etc).  You can just add more ini files as you need for more lists.

See \mamewah\docs\ini.txt and readme1st.txt for more on this...

Do you see the MAMEWAH logo at the top?  Do you see the 'no snap' (big MAMEWAH logo) where the snapshots should be?

Edit: if you do see the top logo, but not the 'no snap' image then it implies the PaintX.dll is not working (it is required for png's but not gif's).  If this is the case, try Start > Run > regsvr32 paintx.dll .

btw those docs I referred to don't have much about filters (you'll see it is pretty self explanatory), but it has stuff on using custom lists.

i read the docs and it makes no sense to me. Can somebody post a filters for dummies here. A step by step would be nice. Or some examples or what to type and where. I read some stuff here but it seems everyone is talking about a different version of mamewah. I Just want a custom list taking out all clones unless its better then the parent and to get rid of nonworking and unavailable roms. Just like in mame32. thanks guys.

first, make sure you have a mame-1.ini file in your MameWah directory... or any mame-x.ini file where x is any number other than 0.  Once you have that...

Start up mamewah.  Hit 2.  Choose select custom list and pick the list that ISN'T the main list.. I think it says FILTERED as default... it might be blank totally if you made a new file, at least it was for me... just scroll to that other list and choose it.

Now you're in a filterable list.  Hit 2.  Choose Games List Options.  Choose Generate filtered list.  Now it's just like it always was in MameWah.  Select a category (BIOS, Years, Manufacturers, etc) and change them as you see fit.  These option only show up of course if you have catver.ini installed and set up in MameWah.

For your list, you'd want to pick clones - Only if better than parent, and I believe there is a setting for preliminary games, which are games that don't quite work yet... shut those off.

hope that helps.

Hey pointdablame thanks for the reply. I"m going to try that when my wife gets off the other computer. Do you have any idea what's going on with my snaps?

My snaps are in c:\mame\snap so that's what i typed in under the mamewah ini under artwork or something. But it still doesn't work.

I might know whats wrong with the snaps. I noticed as i was trying to reinstall the system files from the mamewah site.

It says this :

C:\windows\desktop>regsvr32.exe paintx.dll
bac command or file name.

Is there anyway i can install this file?

I know there is a way that MinWah was telling ppl to get paintx.dll, but I forget what it was  :-\

I keep thinking it was the .NET framework... but I could be totally wrong. I'm glad the lists worked tho

See my reply #3 - try registering paintx.dll from Start > Run.
