Widescreen PC Monitor
« on: September 10, 2004, 12:00:32 pm »
I'm in the process of building a MAME cabinet and was just curious if anyone has used a widescreen PC monitor in a cab before?  If so do, would you please post some pics?  I came across a SUN 24" widescreen monitor with a VGA connection in the back.  It looks GREAT.  :D

I'm curious to see a cabinet with one of these in it...

FYI...  I plan on using the cabinet for MAME as well as PC games so that was my motivation for using a PC monitor instead of an arcade monitor or TV...

Thanks,

Terryd

If you don't want stretched images, set "screen_aspect" option to 16:9.  You'll get black bars left and right, of course.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe it would be pointless to have a wide screen monitor for games.  the games were not designed to be on a wide screen, so if you were to fill the screen the image would be stretched.

Actually, there are widescreen arcade games. But they only started to appear recently. The Beatmania IIDX series come to mind. Not emulated (yet) though.

You could make some kick ass vertical shooters with a 9:16 aspect ratio! :D
