What happen to these Mamewah features?
« on: September 09, 2004, 03:36:37 pm »
Hi,
I got mamewah working with mame no problem however what happened to these features?

-when you hit 2 in mamewah and the menu pops up the old versions had all sorts of Mamewah config options in the menu.. like control settings, mp3 etc... Why was that removed? it made it so simple to set up, its a pain in he bum to do it in notepad...anyone advise?

How do you add custom lists? and filters?? it dont see that in the menus either.. it made it so easy/fast.. will these features be added? or should I wait for Mamewah setup?

I love mamewah it rocks dont get me wrong!!

Thanks
JIM

Afraid all that is done now via the inis. While I do love all of the new features of mamewah 1.5, I was really sad to see these go. Configuring just about everything in my cabinet has to be done via VNC now, including control settings, lists/filters, and any temporary changes I've made from time to time.

My TV is fine for all of the games I care to play, but blurry 640x480 makes changing settings in notepad difficult, and (last I checked) using 'mamewah setup' almost impossible, whereas mamewah's multi-level (and large, readable font)  menu system was a breeze.

Hopefully I'll have the cabinet all set up once and for all and it will be a non-issue, but it's a pain for me in the meantime.
Sorry for whining :)

I apologise to some extent for removing stuff from the menu's...but I decided it was best for me to do it this way because:

a) I got countless queries from people who just edited files and messed things up even tho if they had done so from the menu the menu would have corrected (or indicated) the mistake,
b) it was a pain having to make each option change take effect immediately,
c) there are now so many options/settings that making the menu intuitive was near impossible (many users found it difficult even in 0.97).

Also while setting up in the menu was handy for some options, it still usually meant getting a keyboard out for entering paths etc.  I kindof felt that if you need a keyboard you might as well just edit ini files  :-\  My argument as to why this is better for you guys is that once configured you now never have to do it again...I know this has helped me with my cab immensely ;D

Demon-Seed: You *can* add/remove to custom lists, and filter from the menu - look in Games List Options ;)

SpamMe: I suppose I hadn't really though how difficult it might be on a TV (my arcade monitor is pretty sharp!).  Sounds like you have it covered but for the most part you could even configure on another PC (I often do this on my desktop and copy the files over).

I need to make a manual, I just hate doing it so I'm putting it off...I'm hoping someone will figure it all out and write one for me!  ::)

Seriously tho, feel free to ask me any questions about how does [this feature] work, or what does [this option] do...

Hey
I have to say once I started playing with Mamewah the new version its pretty simple to set up. I am having problems getting my lists to show correctly. Working on mame first.. maybe it is because I do not understand how it works.... like I dont want clones.. i hit -noclones yet I still have 10 19xx..games? Can u advise?

I know a catver.zip can be download and it is what puts roms into categories right.. how do i point to it in mamewah.ini.. right now i have it set to d:\mame\catver.zip   <--is that correct if not how? Maybe someon could explain what exactly CATVER does also what does DAT files do? how they work/where to get it?

How do you filter and set up lists within an emulator... ie) SPORTS games, FIGHTERS, LIGHTGUN etc?
Also can the skins be changed when you switch to a different list? how?

Also what kind of movies can mamewah play? when do they play? on boot or when u switch emus??

I will read more in the docs...maybe the answer is right there..... I have it working great... just need to get my lists sorted out better... Sorry I am a bit of a newbie.

thx in advance
JIM

5) Also what kind of movies can mamewah play? when do they play? on boot or when u switch emus??

1) The filters work the same as previous versions...select a custom list (you must have a emuname-x.ini to do this), then go into Games List Options > Generate Filtered List.

2) You need to unzip catver.ini, then point to that.

3) See 1), the Category Filters will be at the bottom of the list of filters.

4) Yes, see \mamewah\docs\layouts.txt

5) MPEG's and AVI's can be used for intro / exit movies (see mamewah.ini), movie previews and screensavers (see emuname.ini).

Also see readme1st.txt, ini.txt & layouts.txt for further help...also www.screenshotarchive.com has a cool video on how to make custom lists - it is for an old version but it hasn't really changed.

I think you have to have a Mame-0.ini first. I don't think you can jump to 1. I recall having one in my files.

yeah, your main, unfiltered list must be mame-0.ini, not just mame.ini

If you deleted that file, try renaming mame.ini or reinstalling MameWah.
first off your and idiot

Questions about movies.....
how do they work? what kind of movies do they play and where would one download them?

Is it possible to that when you highlight a game in mamewah instead of showing a snap it shows a mini movie of the game?

PCE(Turbo graphics 16) I am having problems with my emulation..... which ones do you guys us in mamewah and where can i grab it?

so far progressing welll.. I got all mame working, snes, and genesis.. eheh calling it quits for now.

great build

thx

You can play .avi and .mpg I believe.  There is a torrent running right now with the 3darcade movies.  Check the 3darcade site at mameworld for the .torrent.

And yes, its possible... in fact, its exactly what it does apparently.  I can't wait to get the movies downloaded myself :)
