Those Billion in 1 game controllers
« on: August 30, 2004, 10:26:21 am »
I was at the mall and saw controllers shaped like a n64 controller that hooked up to a TV and play maybe like 50 plus games. I think they had a few different kinds. They prolly are "superjoys". I think they would make a nice cheap hack.

I have two. They just have an nes on a chip and only really have about 76 to 100 games; all the rest are repeats with diffrent names. They are essentially the japanese famicom. You could hack it into a full working nes if you get an daptor or hack the cart port.

NOA (Nintendo of America) while keeping people from selling these on eBay (for the most part) for the last 2 years, while ignoring the Mall sales has now launched a huge attempt to stop imports and sales of all of these devices in the U.S.

Complete story here:

I wonder if it would be possible to hack the games into a real NES.
It sure beats cart swapping.

As a side note, does anyone know of a way to hack multiple game carts into a single system?  I seem to remember someone did that with an Atari 2600.

NOA may be successfull in getting these out of the mall kiosks, but they have been at local flea markets in large numbers for at least a year.  It appears the horse has left the barn. ;D
Please!  Give me the good news first!

you can build a computer into an nes case, wire usb controllers, and get a laptop har ddrive adapter, have a dvd rom commin out the cartridge slot for watching dvds, you have an "nes-pc" i've built one before... very good stuff

::of course it plays roms :) ::

How can Nintendo have MILLIONS of dollars in losses related to a product that is not a copy of ANYTHING they currently sell, and for that matter 90 percent of the games on the thing aren't theirs either.

This would pretty much be the same thing as Ford suing the people who sell reproduction fiberglass bodies for old 30s and 40s Ford cars, because they were "Hurting the Ford name and stealing their business".

Nintendo should just wise up and make those darn things themselves. They could double the price and still make a fortune.

But, wait, they can't do that because their board of directors lives in this fantasy world that THINKS all the titles they own for defunct systems are still viable products that can somehow be sold for $30 each. Although in REALITY they have roughly 10 nes titles that are still viable, and I am pretty sure they already rereleased those for Gameboy advance and  didn't do terribly well with them.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

not really

just a mini itx mobo inside an nes case
the rest is just building a computer

just have to get the right sized parts
not hard at all

Most of them don't even bother getting the right size parts--they just hack the case to their needs.  Kinda defeats the purpose of the project.

They should make one where they don't make ANY holes in the exterior.  Having the back cut off for the mobo connections just looks ugly.

I think he is saying there is no need to destoy the back of the case if your only need power and svideo-out. People cut holes for things they never use.

What an arse he was, too.  "Usually I sell these for $99.  But today, I sell you for $50."  Give me a break

hey, we all steal, wait no we don't

other people steal roms that frequent this very site

lets not have the pot calling the kettle black, we're all in this together... which side are you on... granted he is selling them, but think about this.

not everyone has computer knowledge to run emulators, or a computer for that matter. if people knew how to download these, do you think they'd pay the 50 bucks for them? these open emulation to people who wouldn't have access to it otherwise. The only people who would buy this are people who want to play the games, and $50 for one of those is a good deal if you ahve no other way to emulate nes, thats the cost of one game now a days. Instead of trying to hurt the consumer and help nintendo (who screws people many many times over, just check their history) you should check priorities, we're here for the preservation of classic games. those controllers are just one more way of keeping them alive and in peoples hands that wouldn't have any other way to play them. they have opened classic gaming to a whole generation of people. legalities aside, because legalities are aside when dealing with mame, or nes, or any other type of emulator. does everyone see where i'm comming from?

--tried to be respectful in my opinion, i hope i was--

I wouldn't mind them selling illigal nes games, if they could just do it right.
Half the games on it are crappy buggy conversions, and the other half are copies of the others with slightly different colors.

The one I saw at the mall had SMB with crazy hacked sprites and large black bars on the sides of the screen.

Combine this with a flimsy plastic shell and reversed button layout (someone should be smacked upside the head for that), and it seems like $50 is a complete ripoff.

yea they're cheap, but if you don't want them, don't buy them. I  agree with you, but  they have them on display to play and everything so they know exactly what they're getting. But yea it does suck. lol

hehe you say that like if they didnt think for one second they could get away with it they wouldnt try.

acctully if you think of it , automobile was coind by ford himself , they should sue all the other car makers and say they cannot print the word automobile on anything describing anything other than a ford product.

maby Al Gore should sue anyone useing www on their url :-)
