25khz to 15khz help
« on: August 26, 2004, 09:15:01 pm »
hello, Ive decided to make a new thread cos the other thread was getting too long and too mudled up!

anyway the question is that I have a cabinet which has a 25khz (medium) monitor and people say that there will be a problem getting a graphics card to work with the PC im going to install when I turn the cabinet into MAME (the cabinet is Virtua Fighter btw)

I have been looking for a switch and have found something. and did switch it, is this how this is supposed to show when you switch it?

the plug was in position 2 (which was working purfectly) and I switched it to position 1, which gave me what you can see in picture 2. double screen with loads of black lines

so is this it? did i hit the jackpot?

I was trying for about 1 hour to find it. The prob with the cab is that the top back part dosent come off so I can have easy access to the monitor, only the bottom part comes off and I had to use a mirror to see what was there! bloody hard!

As you can see, the picture I took is not exactly the same as Bally's illustration as I had another plug above the plug I changed (plugs 3 + 4). I was looking for some writting but couldnt find anything. I later looked again at the monitor for a sticker and found one which had a serial number A63JHF81X and make was MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORP.

Now...

some people say that its OK to have a medium (25khz) resolution monitor as most of the games use that resolution others say its better to be 15khz (low res). I dont know what to do, One of the users on here is helping me (Bally) and he has converted one of these cabs but needs to know if my monitor is the same as his, so we can procceed.

so if someone can tell me if the plug I changed is the right one and it is 15khz.

can someone please tell me what is the best to do, switch from 25khz to 15khz (that is if thats the plug/switch is the correct one and I have done it right) or keep it on 25khz? what is the difference. Which graphics card will support them?

Im realy stuck!

IIRC you're passing the signal thru a J-PAC, correct?

If so, looks like the only thing you need to do is make the signal 15KHz and you'll be golden.

dude, I havent passed the signal through anything yet, Ive just been looking for a 15khz plug on the monitor because my monitor is 25khz but from what everyone says on my monitor theres a switch/plug. Ive changed the plug and the picture I get on my screen is a double screen with lines in it!

is that what 15khz is supposed to show?

Could be. But don't feed your monitor 25kHz signals if you set it to 15kHz. It could get damaged. If you are anxious to test 15kHz try getting a common 15kHz arcade game board of eBay. Should not cost you more than $15 and you can always resell it later.
