ClrMamePro "nodumps" ?
« on: August 25, 2004, 03:34:01 pm »
What is a "nodump" anyways?  I don't understand this aspect of ClrMamePro.  Nodump I think means that it's a rom that was not dumped at the present time of creation of the DAT you are using.  If that's the case, why is it even in the dat?  I am checking over some old sets (from Mame 0.61) and am finding some 'nodumps' in there.  What does this mean?  Does nodump mean that its a rom that is there, but is unneeded?

You know when you run a game and it says 'No good dump know' and a list of rom(s)?  Often the game will still play (with errors)...

ClrMAME just highlights these, so you probably have the best available...until dumps of those missing or bad are found.

At least that's how I understand it  ::)

So do you treat them as unnneeded?  Or just tell cmpro to hide nodumps?

I think I hide dumps, but I don't think it really matters, as it summarises how many missing are 'no dumps' anyway IIRC.

BTW nodumps are just what it says, not inc. bad dumps as I implied earlier  ::)

Mine says I'm missing 241 "nodumps"  is that where my 182mb of 45gb comes from?

my whole set is almost 13gb, so that's a lot more than a 182mb difference.

I'm trying to get the nodump and missing bytes figured out.  does this look right for a 103 set?

i no dumps does not mean  not playable...
some could be missing color ROM and the colors are guessed by the developer, or could be a sound rom that is not dumped. Look at the list and try a few
